Principal's Message
Welcome to Week 6! As mentioned last week, we have a busy end to the term. Our school leaders had a wonderful trip to Sydney, even though it was rather hot and sticky. Thank you to Miss Pritchard and Huw Greenhill for taking the students. From all accounts everyone had a wonderful time and there were lots of highlights including the trip to Manly on the ferry and listening to all the inspirational speakers at the conference. See newsletter for full report.
Well done to all our swimmers who performed remarkable well the district carnival last Friday. Congratulations to Cora Ryan who was awarded joint junior girl champion and to all our relay teams for making it through to Western. Nineteen swimmers are heading off to Dubbo for the Western Region Trials next Tuesday. I’m sure everyone will do very well and swim lots of PBs.
The first round of PSSA Cricket will commence tomorrow against Mulyan Public School in Cowra. Miss Toovey has ‘rallied the troops’ and thank you to all the parents for volunteering their time and cars to transport the students tomorrow. Good luck to everyone, I hope it’s not going to be too hot for you all.
Next Wednesday NAPLAN will begin for Year 3 & 5. These tests are completed online in the hall in the morning session. There will be 4 days of testing over the 2 weeks. Please ensure your child is at school on time and is ready for the test. Additional information about headphones etc will be included in the newsletter.
Three Way Interviews will be coming up in Week 10. Please make sure you can access the Sentral portal, as this is where you will be able to make 3 Way Interview bookings from 9am next Monday. We would love to see as many parents as possible. You will receive a notification advising you when the portal is open. Kindergarten parents are not required to attend these meetings as they were conducted at the beginning of the year.
Our P&C AGM will be held next Monday night at The Canowindra Service Club at 6:30pm. We’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible turn up and become involved in a great little committee which provides amazing support for our school. Look forward to seeing lots of new faces.
Have a great week!
Kind regards,
Sharon Hawker

District Swimming Carnival
What a great day at District Swimming in Grenfell last Friday.
Well done to all students who swam and cheered from the side.
Thank you to all parents who drove their kids and others to the carnival. Also, thank you to Toni, Huw and Alicia for timekeeping throughout the day.
Congratulations to Cora Ryan who received equal Junior Girl Champion.
All children who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd have qualified for Western Trials to be held on Tuesday, 12th March in Dubbo. We have 19 students who have qualified for Western this year. I have highlighted them in the results.

Young Leaders Conference
On Sunday, 8 of our school leaders ventured off to Sydney for the Young Leaders Conference. We arrived in Sydney and checked in to our accommodation, which was on the 71st floor and had views of all around Sydney! We had some lunch and a quick look around Pitt Street. Some of us looked through the world’s largest Lego store, while the others helped Miss Pritchard choose some wedding shoes.
We then walked to Circular Quay and wandered around looking at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. It was a pretty hot afternoon so we were excited to get on the ferry over to Manly to run around on the beach, have some fish and chips and finish the day with an ice cream!
On Monday, we were up early ready for the Young Leaders Conference at the ICC in Darling Harbour. We were there with 5000 other students from across NSW. We learnt about building a ‘memory palace’ from Anastasia Woolmer, the Australian Memory Champion, and how she trained her brain in different memory techniques. Got to catch up with Matt Cosgrove and Eva Amores, the authors of ‘Macca the Alpaca’ and ‘Worst Week Ever’ book series, who taught us how to draw Macca the Alpaca in 10 seconds. Then listened to Stephen O’Keefe, member of the Australian, NSW and Sydney Sixers cricket team, talk about his journey to success while his baggy green got passed around the audience. The last speaker for the day was Ninja Warrior champion, Bryson Klein, who is the youngest ever Australian to compete in the world Ninja Warrior championships (and won!).
We enjoyed all of the guest speakers from the day, who all had an inspirational story of how resilience, perseverance and determination got them to where they are today.
We are very grateful for our trip to Sydney and the Young Leaders Conference. Special shout out to Huw Greenhill for coming along with our 8 leaders and Miss Pritchard.

Attendance Matters
Must have missed that day?
Time with friends, assignments, an important math lesson or getting picked for a sports team – we don’t want any one of our students missing out. Days missed here and there add up.
With regular school attendance your child will have the best opportunity to learn and improve their wellbeing. We are here to support your child to be ready and engaged for school. Please contact us if you need any assistance with your child’s attendance.
Visit the Every Day Matters webpage for more information and resources.
A reminder that planned travel should only be taken during school holidays and students should be at school every day during school term, right from beginning to end.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up. Every day matters and we are here to support all students in attending and engaging with their learning every day of the term.
