Week 11 Term 1 Newsletter 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I can’t believe we are at the end of the term and everyone has settled in remarkably well and is on track for a great year ahead. Today we finally get to have our Cross Country and thankfully the sun is shining and the water has subsided. It’s always a great day for the students and it's wonderful to see everyone getting some fresh air and exercise. Our top 6 runners will go through to the district carnival in Boorowa on Friday the 17th May.
Canowindra will be a very busy place over the holidays with the Balloon Glow and ANZAC Day ceremonies to name a few. Our school has been invited to march in the Balloon Glow Parade on Saturday 27th April as well as ANZAC Day March on Thursday 25th April. If you are around for either of these events, please join our wonderful school on each of these occasions. Additionally, for parents, don't forget Canowindra P&C Trivia night on Monday 22nd April. See additional information in the newsletter.
First week back in term 2, we will have our school ANZAC service on Thursday 2nd May and the Primary Athletics Carnival – running events only, will be held on Friday 3rd May at The Oval. All parents are welcome to attend both events.
A final reminder that the last day of this term is this Friday 12th April and first day back next term for students is Tuesday 30th April.
Have a wonderful holiday with family and friends! Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and I look to another great term of learning.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Our Learner Qualities
Aurora applications now open - Year 5 2025
Applications for Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2025 open 4 April and close 20 May 2024. Opportunity classes are an important way for us to support high-potential and gifted students. It's important we let parents and carers know they need to apply for Year 5 opportunity class placement while their children are in Year 4. The tests will be held in designated government high school test centres or other facilities. Please see additional information below.
The Resilience Project
Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives – this only takes 21 days! Practising gratitude every day increases our levels of energy, and helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives every day!
Whole Family Activity:
Gratitude Scavenger Hunt
- As a family create a scavenger hunt list of things that make you happy or you are grateful for, you can make your own list or use the examples below:
- Something that makes you happy
- Something you love to smell
- Something you enjoy looking at
- Something that is your favourite colour
- Something you like in nature
- Something that is useful for you
- Each member of the family uses the list and has to find as many things as they can.
- You can hunt for things inside or outside, or both. You can hunt for real things, or you can also do this using magazines or pictures from the internet.
- After a set amount of time hunting, come back together, have a look at what each person collected and let them explain why they are grateful for each item.
Family Habit Builder:
Every night at dinner, have each person talk about their favourite thing about that day.
