Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to Miss Georgie Pritchard who has been appointed by open merit selection as Assistant Principal – Primary. Georgie has been relieving in this role for the past 18 months and will continue to teach Year 6 and fulfil this role on a permanent basis. I’m sure you’ll join us in congratulating her. Georgie is a wonderful teacher and leader and we are very privileged to have her at our school.
The P&C Mother’s Day stall will be held tomorrow in the canteen. The stall will be open from 9:30am and students will be purchasing in their class groups throughout the morning. Gifts will cost between $1- $15. Please ensure students have a bag for their money or any left-over change. Thank you to the organising committee, the students always love shopping for their mums!
Walk to School Day is on Friday. Students are encouraged to walk to school via the school crossing and buses will be dropping students off at the bottom of the school for them the “walk” to school. Now that we have a supervised crossing it makes it much safer for students to walk to and from school daily. Ms Laurie and Miss Lander will be out and about supervising the students near the crossing and Charlotte St.
Mrs Swords is off to Cowra with the Rugby 7s teams on Friday. Everyone is very excited to have a local gala day and are looking forward to playing some Cowra, Canowindra and Forbes teams. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to drive and help with the coaching i.e Mr Nash.
CWA speeches have been presented all week in primary classes and the school finals will be held next Monday in the hall. Ms Toovey and I have the unenviable task of being the judge. Thank you for helping your children prepare their speeches, it’s a great achievement for them to get up in front of their peers and present a speech.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums on Sunday! May you find some time to reflect on the great job you all do in this busy world.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Thank you to the Grey Family for fixing our rocket! Additional photos from athletics carnival running events last Friday. Primary sport will consist of practice sessions for particpation in the field event finals, to be held later in the term (tbc). Also photos from our school Anzac service that was held last Thursday.
This Friday 10th May is Walk Safely to School Day. If possible, students are encouraged to walk to school on this day. If students are driven to school, parents could drive part-way and walk with their child the rest of the way. All bus students will be dropped at the bottom of level 3 and walk up to school. Miss Lander and Ms Laurie will be at the bottom of level 3 handing out tattoos to students participating in Walk Safely to School day.
THANK YOU
Thank you to Manildra Flour Mill and the Wright Family for the generous donation of bread for Breakfast Club!
The Upstage Visit
On Monday we welcomed the UpStage crew. This performing arts workshop introduced the whole school to singing, dancing and acting. Students were highly engaged and they reported to have loved the experience; developing new skills, having fun and uncovering talent.

Kindergarten - Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)
Our school will take part in the AEDC between May and July this year. The AEDC is a national census that is conducted every three years by the Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments. It measures how children have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school.
The AEDC is voluntary and it does not measure how well children are doing at school, nor how their school compares to other schools. Instead, it shows how children are growing and progressing in five key areas, what is being done well and what can be improved. AEDC data is used by schools, early childhood organisations, researchers and governments to help plan and improve services and supports for children and families. This is why it is important for all children in their first year of school to be included in the AEDC. You can learn more about the ways AEDC data is used at https://www.aedc.gov.au/.
What does this mean for your child?
The AEDC is completed by teachers based on their knowledge of the children. Children do not need to do anything to be included in the census and will attend class as usual while the census is conducted. The census will start on 6th May 2024.
Teachers will answer questions about the five key areas of early childhood development, which are: physical health and wellbeing, emotional maturity, social competence, language and cognitive skills (school-based), and communication skills and general knowledge. You can see all the questions at https://www.aedc.gov.au/avedi.
You can be confident that your child’s privacy will be protected.
We understand how important it is to keep your child’s information private. This is why the AEDC uses a secure website to collect and keep their information.
More information about how AEDC data (including your child’s information) is collected, protected and used is in the Fact Sheet.
What do parents need to do?
For the purposes of the AEDC, the Australian Government Department of Education seeks your consent to collect personal information about your child from our school. This includes known information about your child’s health.
If you consent to the collection of your child's information, you do not need to do anything.
If you do not consent to the collection of your child's information, please contact the school before Monday 6th May, and no information about your child will be collected.

Aurora College - Parent Information Session
Aurora College will be hosting two different information sessions for students and families who are interested in finding out more about the Opportunity Class program, and how the OC works in the virtual context of Aurora College.
https://aurora.schools.nsw.gov.au/events.html
Both sessions will run on the 14th of May, a 9.30 am session aimed at Year 4 students and then a follow up session at 6.00 pm for parents.
Please contact Miss Toovey by Monday 13th May, if you would like your Year 4 child to attend the Aurora information session at 9:30 am on Tuesday 14th May.
Aurora applications now open - Year 5 2025
Applications for Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2025 open 4 April and close 20 May 2024. Opportunity classes are an important way for us to support high-potential and gifted students. It's important we let parents and carers know they need to apply for Year 5 opportunity class placement while their children are in Year 4. The tests will be held in designated government high school test centres or other facilities. Please see additional information below.
The Resilience Project - Empathy
Working on empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we show empathy or we do something kind for someone else our brain releases oxytocin. This leads to increasing our self-esteem/confidence, energy levels, positivity and overall happiness.
Whole Family Activity:
Neighbourhood Kindness Challenge
As a family, choose an act of kindness from the list below that you would like to do for a neighbour or family friend. Each family member can select one to commit to, or you can choose to do one together.
- Cook them something delicious like a cake, hot bread, or cookies.
- Write a note to put in their letterbox thanking them for being a great neighbour or friend.
- Design them a Thank You card.
- Pick or buy some flowers to deliver to them.
- Choose a little plant from your garden to give them.
- Make them a gift from things around your house.
- Offer to do a job for them, like wash their car or water their garden.
- Offer to take their pets for a walk.
- Invite them over for afternoon tea.
- Invite them on a walk.
- Recommend one of your favourite books to borrow and read.
- Ask them if they need anything from the shops next time you buy groceries.
- Say hello next time you see them, and ask them how their day is going.
Feel free to do more than one and spread the kindness even further!
Report back to each other in one week and share how your acts of kindness were received, and how doing them made you feel.
Family Habit Builder:
Every night at dinner, have each person thank another family member for something they’ve done or said today, or give another family member a compliment.
