Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another crisp and sunny week is upon us. It’s great to see students enjoying the sunny days in the playground, sporting grounds and on stage.
Last Friday 48 runners competed at the District Cross Country carnival in Boorowa. Everyone ran exceptionally well and out of the eight races we had 5 firsts, 1 second, 1 third and 1 fifth, which is an outstanding result for a school our size. Well done to all involved!
We have another busy week of extracurricular activities. These include PSSA Netball which was played on Monday in Orange at a gala day. Our girls had a great day and came away with 1 win and lots of new skills and friendship. Tuesday saw our girls’ touch team travel to Cowra to play Mulyan PS. Our girls played well but went down 4-1. Today the boys’ soccer team travel to Cowra to play Cowra PS. They have been training well, however illness has had an impact on playing numbers, although Miss Dixon is quietly confident. Thank you to all parents for transporting students to Orange and Cowra, we greatly appreciate your time and effort.
Our dance troop is embarking on their annual pilgrimage to Cowra Eisteddfod today. The group has been practising very hard over the past few months and are looking forward to putting their best foot forward. Thank you to Miss Lander, Mrs Matic and Miss Pritchard for choreographing both performances and to Alikinetic for supplying the wonderful dance outfits for our dancers. We look forward to seeing their perfromance at assembly this week.
The Year 5 Canberra excursion permission notes and camp information were sent home last week via Sentral. As always this is going to be another great trip. The House of Representative will be sitting; so this should provide lots of entertainment for our students and staff when visiting parliament house. The group will also visit other major sites such as the Australian War Memorial, AIS and Questacon to name a few. Fingers crossed the weather gods are kind to us. The cost is $220 per student and can be paid off in instalments. If anyone is having difficulty, please contact me as soon as possible to work out a payment plan.
School photos were sent home on Monday. If your child was away, they can be collected from the school office.
Week 4 assembly will be held this Friday, commencing at 2pm.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

PSSA Netball
On Monday, ten students travelled to Orange to play in the PSSA netball competition. We played 3 games, winning against Mulyan and only losing by 2 to Blayney. The girls all played beautifully and showed wonderful sportsmanship. It was great to see new players learn the game so quickly.
Well done Canowindra!

Our Learner Qualities
The Resilience Project - Empathy
Working on empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we show empathy or we do something kind for someone else our brain releases oxytocin. This leads to increasing our self-esteem/confidence, energy levels, positivity and overall happiness.
Whole Family Activity:
Neighbourhood Kindness Challenge
As a family, choose an act of kindness from the list below that you would like to do for a neighbour or family friend. Each family member can select one to commit to, or you can choose to do one together.
- Cook them something delicious like a cake, hot bread, or cookies.
- Write a note to put in their letterbox thanking them for being a great neighbour or friend.
- Design them a Thank You card.
- Pick or buy some flowers to deliver to them.
- Choose a little plant from your garden to give them.
- Make them a gift from things around your house.
- Offer to do a job for them, like wash their car or water their garden.
- Offer to take their pets for a walk.
- Invite them over for afternoon tea.
- Invite them on a walk.
- Recommend one of your favourite books to borrow and read.
- Ask them if they need anything from the shops next time you buy groceries.
- Say hello next time you see them, and ask them how their day is going.
Feel free to do more than one and spread the kindness even further!
Report back to each other in one week and share how your acts of kindness were received, and how doing them made you feel.
Family Habit Builder:
Every night at dinner, have each person thank another family member for something they’ve done or said today, or give another family member a compliment.
