Principal's Message
Our Year 5s ventured off to Canberra yesterday morning bright and early. They’ve had a wonderful first day and from all accounts the new accommodation was fantastic. A huge thank you to Miss Dixon and Miss Smith for taking our students away overnight, we look forward to hearing all about it. Estimated time of arrival is 6:30pm tonight, a message will be sent out via Sentral to confirm.
I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Western Dance Festival in Bathurst last night. Our Year 6 girls represented our school and performed the Stage 3 dance that they performed at Cowra Eisteddfod. Their performance was very polished and well-choreographed and all the girls thoroughly enjoying themselves. The buzz backstage was amazing, and the girls have made lots of new friends. Canowindra High School also performed exceptionally well, and it was great to see so many ex-students still engaging in their passion for dance. A huge thank you to Mrs Matic for accompanying the girls to Bathurst for the day/ night and to Alikintetic for the lend of the costumes and to Canowindra HS for sharing the bus with us the Bathurst. Can’t wait for next year!
So many of our ex-students are achieving amazing results in sporting, academic and cultural pursuits either in high school or post school. We’d love to hear more about what our ex-students are doing in these areas. If you have any information you’d like to share with us about any ex-students, please email the school with your stories, and we’d love to share their successes.
Good luck to the girls’ soccer team who will be playing Grenfell next Tuesday in Grenfell. As this is the first day after the long weekend, please make sure everyone is ready and organised to travel over with parents in the morning. Thank you once again for our parents who are willing and able to transport and to Miss Dixon for coordinating and coaching.
Our Super Science Day is coming up next week. Mrs Townsend has been busily organising this event. We are looking forward to engaging in lots of mind-blowing science experiments and experiencing the Jolly Bops Science Show.
Lastly, I’d like to wish Ms Jade O’Malley all the best as she embarks on maternity leave with her second child. Jade has been job sharing with Mrs Miller on 1/2. I’d also like to announce that Mrs Matic is having her second child and will be taking maternity leave at the end of the term. Mrs Matic has been our ever reliable and organised library/ RFF teacher. Mrs Howard will be returning in Term 3 and will be slotting into one of these positions. We wish all our prospective mums a smooth transition with baby No. 2.
Have a great week and enjoy a sleep in on Monday!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Western Dance Festival
Yesterday our Year 6 dance girls travelled to Bathurst on the bus with Canowindra High School to participate in the Western Dance Festival. The girls performed in two sessions in the evening and had a fabulous time entertaining the large audience on the night. They enjoyed interacting with the other schools who participated and made many new friends. Well done girls on such a great effort during the day and night.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is: 3/4
Science Day
Excitement is building as the our CPS Super Science Day is only 1 week away. Celebrating National Science week, a little early this year, we have a day full of wonderful science experiments and investigations planned. Students will have the chance to do 3 different activities with different teachers throughout the day, however the most exciting part our our day will occur in the hall when we get to experience the amazing Jolly Bops Science Show. There will be an infants show and a primary show, where our 2 visiting scientists will be wowing us with their colourful, explosive, shattering, fizzy, bright, oozy and awesome experiments. We Can Not Wait!
SRC - Lose Your Locks Fundraiser
The SRC are still accepting donations for The Kids Cancer Project. Thank you for your donations! This amount means Mrs Hawker and Ms. Laurie will be colouring their hair in the coming weeks. Mrs Swords locks are safe at the moment!

Our Learner Qualities
Game Changer Challenge
Over the last 5 weeks, Year 6 students, Finn, Zoe, Harvey, Joey and Indie have been working together to in effort to 'Make life better for all without harming the planet.' Last Friday, the 'Cano Yabbies' submitted their entry into the Game Changer Challenge. They would like to share their work with you.
The Resilience Project - Mindfulness
Working on mindfulness gives us opportunities to develop our ability to pay attention to the present moment and our thoughts. Practising mindfulness daily can help us stay focused on set tasks and reduce stress and anxiety.
Whole Family Activity:
Mindful Walk
- As a family, go on a walk outside in nature. This might be around your local walking track, at your local park, or just around your streets.
- While walking, tune into your senses and observe what you can see, hear, and feel. Or you might choose to focus on one of the senses. Eg: Hear: what are all the noises you can hear on your walk?
- On your way home or when you return home, share what each person saw, heard, or felt.
Family Habit Builder:
Each night at dinner, ask everyone to take one mouthful of food more mindfully than the rest and think about the flavours they can taste and how it makes them feel. (They can also thank the chef!).
