Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was a cold start for our five competitors who headed off to Orange this morning for the Western Region Cross Country Carnival. We wish Harvey, Elsie, Tom, Ruby and Sam well, and I’m sure they will have lots of fun and hopefully the sun comes out.
Our Primary athletics field events will be held this Friday 14th June at our school oval. All primary students will be competing in the field events, and they have been busy practising this term and are ready to compete in all events.
Thank you to Miss Dixon and parents for transporting our girls’ soccer team to Grenfell yesterday. They went down 5-2, letting in several early goals in the first half, however, they came back in the second half and outscored Grenfell 2-1, this was a positive experience and everyone had a great time.
Our students and staff are getting very excited for our Super Science Day which is happening tomorrow. We are looking forward to engaging in lots of mind-blowing science experiments and experiencing the Jolly Bops Science Show. St Eddies and Canowindra Pre-school are also joining us for the science show. Thanks again to Mrs Townsend for organising this wonderful free experience for all our students.
Mrs Laurie has returned from her leave and has dyed her hair purple as her fundraising target was reached for The Kids Cancer Project. This also means all our targets have been reached and I’ll be dyeing my hair pink in readiness for Week 8 assembly when Mrs Swords “loses her locks”. Thank you to everyone who has donated over the course of this term, the final amount will be announced in Week 8. There is still time to donate if you haven’t done so!
Lastly, I’d like to thank our Year 5s for a wonderful trip to Canberra last week. Miss Dixon and Miss Smith spoke very highly of the group in particular the enthusiasm and positive behaviour showed throughout the two days. Well done to all students and a huge thank you to our teaches for giving up their own time to take our students on an overnight excursion.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Year 5 Canberra Excursion
Day 1
On Tuesday we all went to school very early at 6:20am & got on the bus at 6:30am. We drove 3 hours to the Australian institute of sport at 9:30am, and had a tour and it was awesome. Here we saw the 25 metre swimming pool that can also convert into a 50 metre pool as well. Then we went to the gym. They were all so strong and fit! We also saw some volleyball, and went to gymnastics. They were all doing backflips & cool tricks. After this, we went to the water polo and they were training really hard. Then we went to sportex and it was so fun! There were really fun sporting activities & games to play!
Next up was lunch at Broinowski Gardens next to the old Parliament House.
After eating we went inside the Old Parliament House to go to the Electoral Education Centre. First we watched a short film about voting and then we played a really cool game, and did a fake vote on our favourite fruits.
Next up was the Australian War Memorial where we had a tour and saw the fighter planes, the Mustang, the Zero, the Sea Fury, the MiG-15, the Avro Anson and the Lockheed Engine from a Hudson Bomber A16-19. We saw the youngest person to die at war who was 14 and the last person to die at war. We saw the grave of the unknown soldier.
Then we went to the arboretum where we played a massive game of tip and there was another school there. It was so fun! Then we went to our accommodation.
We met a lovely lady named Kim and she showed us our rooms. We all went to our rooms and got ready for dinner. Dinner was really good. It was Chicken Schnitzels. Then we had an AMAZING dessert. It was a bun stuffed with chocolate mousse. Once we were full, we went back to the rooms and Miss Dixon and Miss Smith put Shrek 2 on. We watched the movie and then went to bed.
Day 2
On Wednesday we woke up and got dressed to get ready for breakfast. We had eggs, cereal, sausages, waffles and drinks. Soon after we got on the bus to go on the Embassy Tour. We all saw houses from different countries. Then we went to Questacon and looked at all the different science rooms and games. The last room was the best. It had a free fall slide, an air hockey table and many more cool things. We had a photo out the front of Questacon and then had lunch. We had chicken sandwiches and water.
Next up was Parliament House where they had big metal detectors to walk trough. We met our tour guide and she took us to a room where we pretended to be in parliament talking about how kids should have 3 hours of sport each week. We got to see the big paintings and saw the Senate room (Red Room). Then we went to the House Of Representatives (Green Room) while it was sitting, and saw Peter Dutton and even Anthony Albanese. Then we went to the lego parliament house where we had frozen yogurt & met with Andrew Gee! He talked about himself & about being in parliament. Then we sadly had to leave Canberra, but we all had an amazing time in Canberra.

PSSA Soccer
Girls Soccer Report
The Canowindra girls started off the game with a steady start, allowing Grenfell to get a relatively quick 5 goal lead in the first half.
After a quick chat at half time, the girls came out with more determination and fire in their bellies. Lara made a great break away and scored our first goal. Shortly after, the girls displayed great teamwork and passing, which saw Amelia run through the defence to score our second goal. The girls never gave up and tried hard throughout the whole match. The final score was 5-2. Well done, girls.
Boys Soccer Report
The boys played against Cowra Public a couple of weeks ago. It was a cracking day, and the sun was shining, however, sickness meant we were missing a couple of our players.
The boys played well as a team, putting some great passes together. Unfortunately, Cowra were too strong for us, with the final score being 4-0. Well done, boys.

Excitement is building as the our CPS Super Science Day is only 1 DAY away. Celebrating National Science week, a little early this year, we have a day full of wonderful science experiments and investigations planned. Students will have the chance to do 3 different activities with different teachers throughout the day, however the most exciting part our our day will occur in the hall when we get to experience the amazing Jolly Bops Science Show. There will be an infants show and a primary show, where our 2 visiting scientists will be wowing us with their colourful, explosive, shattering, fizzy, bright, oozy and awesome experiments. We Can Not Wait!

Game Changer Challenge
Over the last 5 weeks, Year 6 students, Finn, Zoe, Harvey, Joey and Indie have been working together to in effort to 'Make life better for all without harming the planet.' Last Friday, the 'Cano Yabbies' submitted their entry into the Game Changer Challenge. They would like to share their work with you.
The Resilience Project - Mindfulness
Working on mindfulness gives us opportunities to develop our ability to pay attention to the present moment and our thoughts. Practising mindfulness daily can help us stay focused on set tasks and reduce stress and anxiety.
Whole Family Activity:
Mindful Walk
- As a family, go on a walk outside in nature. This might be around your local walking track, at your local park, or just around your streets.
- While walking, tune into your senses and observe what you can see, hear, and feel. Or you might choose to focus on one of the senses. Eg: Hear: what are all the noises you can hear on your walk?
- On your way home or when you return home, share what each person saw, heard, or felt.
Family Habit Builder:
Each night at dinner, ask everyone to take one mouthful of food more mindfully than the rest and think about the flavours they can taste and how it makes them feel. (They can also thank the chef!).
