Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any colder, it did. I can’t remember a day in Canowindra when the fog hasn’t lifted until after lunch and that’s what happened yesterday. Hopefully everyone is keeping warm and bear in mind that our shortest day is on Friday and then the days will gradually become longer and warmer!
Our school chess teams have been competing in Orange on Monday and today. All students have been playing very well and enjoy the experience. Thanks to Mr Bates for coordinating and coaching our students and to parents for driving the students over and back each day.
Thank you to Miss Dixon and primary staff for organising our athletics field events last Friday. The students had a wonderful time rotating around all the respective field events and as a result we have been able to announce our age champions for athletics. Please see full report in newsletter.
Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed for our Super Science Day last Thursday. The Jollybops Science Show was a quintessential old fashioned science show where the mad scientist and his robot alien helper conducted amazing mind-blowing science experiments. They were conducted with lots of audience participation, and everyone left feeling totally engaged with the world of science. Our teachers also organised a plethora of hands-on science experiments which all students were totally engrossed in. A huge thank you to Mrs Townsend for organising, collecting and purchasing all the equipment for each experiment, well done everyone!
Lastly, our Week 8 assembly will be held this Friday with our usual awards and athletics ribbons will be presented to students. The assembly will be followed by Mrs Swords and Rev Jonno who will be having their heads shaved as we have well and truly raised over $5500 for childhood cancer. A huge thank you to our SRC and Miss Rinaldo for coming up with the idea and to staff for getting on board and losing/ colouring your locks!
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
• the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability in order to access education on the same basis as a child without disability.
• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability.
The information in anonymous and will be collected at the end of this term For more information you can go to https://www.nccd.edu.au/tools/fact-sheet-parents-guardians-and-carers

Our Learner Qualities
Game Changer Challenge
Over the last 5 weeks, Year 6 students, Finn, Zoe, Harvey, Joey and Indie have been working together to in effort to 'Make life better for all without harming the planet.' Last Friday, the 'Cano Yabbies' submitted their entry into the Game Changer Challenge. They would like to share their work with you.
The Resilience Project - Emotional Literacy
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. When we improve our emotional literacy, we can work towards recognising our own feelings and our ability to manage them. This allows us to cope with different life situations, such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations, and being resilient when dealing with change.
Whole Family Activity:
Feelings Charades
- Gather together as a family, this might be around the dinner table, lounge room, or around the fire outside.
- Take turns to act out a feeling or emotion. Use your face and body language to act this out, For example: Make an angry face and stamp your feet or
- Other family members need to guess the feeling/emotion.
- After someone has guessed the feeling/emotion, have family members discuss a time they have felt this way before and why. If it was a negative emotion, how did they overcome it?
Family Habit Builder:
Around the dinner table, ask everyone to share a feeling they felt during that day. Discuss how they dealt with that feeling and then discuss and share strategies you could use when faced with particular feelings.
