Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our second last week of school for Term 2! It has been an incredible journey packed with enriching experiences for our students. From thrilling sporting events to dynamic performances, and the enlightening Super Science Day, this term has truly been a whirlwind of learning and growth.
I am delighted to share some fantastic news with you all. Our Student Representative Council has been hard at work raising awareness and funds for The Kids’ Cancer Project, and thanks to the overwhelming support from our dedicated staff, students, parents, and community, we have achieved something truly remarkable. Together, we've raised an impressive $6245. Special commendations go to Ms. Laurie and Mrs. Hawker for their colourful commitment, and heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Swords and Rev Johno for their incredible act of losing their locks for this noble cause. Thank you to Kylie Lawrence for donating your time and skill to shave the heads of our volunteers.
In another triumph for our school, our Stage 3 ‘Cano Yabbies’ team participated in the Game Changer Challenge this year and their exceptional submission has earned them a spot in the top 120 teams and a place in the semi-finals coming up in Term 3. Please join me in congratulating Finn, Joey, Zoe, Harvey, and Indie for their outstanding achievement!
Furthermore, our chess team recently competed in Orange, where all students had a wonderful time showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. A special thank you goes to the parents who generously provided transportation to this event, ensuring our students could participate. I would also like to express gratitude to Mr. Bates for his dedicated coaching and guidance of our chess team.
As we prepare to conclude this term, I want to emphasise the importance of regular attendance and punctuality. We understand that illness may affect student attendance, and every day at school contributes significantly to their success and growth, both academically and socially. Your continued support in ensuring students arrive on time and ready to learn, despite current illness challenges, is deeply appreciated. Thank you once again for your unwavering support and commitment to our school community.
Have a lovely week!
Warm regards
Lauren Toovey

100% Attendance Gallery
Congratulations to Jack Nash, Zoe Campbell and Skylar Hancock for 100% attendance in Week 8. Well done everyone!
Chess Tournament
Last Monday and Wednesday eight of our students played in the NSW Junior Chess League competition alongside more than 40 other teams from local public and private primary schools. Our junior team displayed excellent sportsmanship and skill, finishing in the middle of their division. The senior team played extraordinarily well and came within one win each of winning their division outright. In the end they finished 4th with 22.5 points - missing 3rd place by half a point. All of our players should be extremely proud of the way they represented the school and are in a great position to challenge again next year.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is: Kindergarten
Optometric Visual Screening - Kindergarten
The local optometrists of Orange have donated their time to visit our school early next term to conduct visual screening of the Kindergarten students at our school who have not had their eyes examined in the last 12 months. The screening has been specifically designed for Kindergarten aged children and enables the identification of those children with vision difficulties, which may hinder their performance in the classroom. If you would like your child to participate in the visual screening please give consent via the Sentral for Parents portal before the 1st July 2024.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
• the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability in order to access education on the same basis as a child without disability.
• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability.
The information in anonymous and will be collected at the end of this term For more information you can go to https://www.nccd.edu.au/tools/fact-sheet-parents-guardians-and-carers

Our Learner Qualities
Game Changer Challenge
Over the last 5 weeks, Year 6 students, Finn, Zoe, Harvey, Joey and Indie have been working together to in effort to 'Make life better for all without harming the planet.' Last Friday, the 'Cano Yabbies' submitted their entry into the Game Changer Challenge. They would like to share their work with you.
The Resilience Project - Emotional Literacy
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. When we improve our emotional literacy, we can work towards recognising our own feelings and our ability to manage them. This allows us to cope with different life situations, such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations, and being resilient when dealing with change.
Whole Family Activity:
Feelings Charades
- Gather together as a family, this might be around the dinner table, lounge room, or around the fire outside.
- Take turns to act out a feeling or emotion. Use your face and body language to act this out, For example: Make an angry face and stamp your feet or
- Other family members need to guess the feeling/emotion.
- After someone has guessed the feeling/emotion, have family members discuss a time they have felt this way before and why. If it was a negative emotion, how did they overcome it?
Family Habit Builder:
Around the dinner table, ask everyone to share a feeling they felt during that day. Discuss how they dealt with that feeling and then discuss and share strategies you could use when faced with particular feelings.
