Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to everyone for a wonderfully busy and productive term. We have managed to get though relatively unscathed; it has been a relentless term for illness but hopefully everyone is on the mend. As the days get longer and warmer, I’m sure everyone will be back to fighting fit next term.
I’d like to wish Mrs Matic and her husband Josh, the very best as the arrival of their second child approaches early next term. Kristen has seemingly breezed through this pregnancy and has continued to be her ever consistent happy self. Thank you for all the work you have done in the library and teaching History and Geography. Mrs Howard will be returning from maternity leave in Term 3 and will slot into Kirsten’s position for the rest of the year. Welcome back Kristy!
Mrs Swords is embarking on a half trip around Australia with her family for the duration of Term 3. Miss Annika Benjafield will be relieving while Jess is away on 3/4. Annika has been a teacher at our school on Infants for several years and she has returned this year to work as a casual. Welcome back on class Annika!
Ms O’Malley has been on maternity leave for the last few weeks, and I’d like to thank Mr Doughan and Mrs Miller for filling in whilst we found a replacement for Term 3. I’m pleased to announce that Mrs Kathy Wright will be job sharing with Mrs Miller on 1/2. Kathy has been working at our school for a few years and has been doing a great job in the kitchen/ garden space with each of our classes.
I’m excited to attend the Canowindra High School NAIDOC Week celebrations today with Stage 3. Everyone will be walking up after recess and there will be a formal assembly and activities to follow. All CPS students will be participating in our annual NAIDOC games tomorrow which is part of our Peer Support Program.
Reports can now be accessed on Sentral Parent Portal via the app or website. Please take the time to read these with your child/ren over the holidays. They provide a concise summary of learning goals and next steps, which will determine new learning for each child next semester.
Term 3 will resume on Tuesday 23rd July for all students. Staff will be attending a SDD at school on Monday 22nd July.
Have a great holiday with all your family and friends and stay warm!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker
Principal

Optometric Visual Screening - Kindergarten
The local optometrists of Orange have donated their time to visit our school early next term to conduct visual screening of the Kindergarten students at our school who have not had their eyes examined in the last 12 months. The screening has been specifically designed for Kindergarten aged children and enables the identification of those children with vision difficulties, which may hinder their performance in the classroom. If you would like your child to participate in the visual screening please give consent via the Sentral for Parents portal before the 4th July 2024.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
• the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability in order to access education on the same basis as a child without disability.
• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability.
The information in anonymous and will be collected at the end of this term For more information you can go to https://www.nccd.edu.au/tools/fact-sheet-parents-guardians-and-carers

Our Learner Qualities
The Resilience Project - Emotional Literacy
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. When we improve our emotional literacy, we can work towards recognising our own feelings and our ability to manage them. This allows us to cope with different life situations, such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations, and being resilient when dealing with change.
Whole Family Activity:
Feelings Charades
- Gather together as a family, this might be around the dinner table, lounge room, or around the fire outside.
- Take turns to act out a feeling or emotion. Use your face and body language to act this out, For example: Make an angry face and stamp your feet or
- Other family members need to guess the feeling/emotion.
- After someone has guessed the feeling/emotion, have family members discuss a time they have felt this way before and why. If it was a negative emotion, how did they overcome it?
Family Habit Builder:
Around the dinner table, ask everyone to share a feeling they felt during that day. Discuss how they dealt with that feeling and then discuss and share strategies you could use when faced with particular feelings.
