Week 1 Term 4 Newsletter 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope everyone had a lovely relaxing holiday with their families and friends. Term 3 finished with a flourish of singing, dancing and colour. I would like to congratulate everyone on their amazing performances at our biannual concert. A special mention to all our staff for making it happen, thank you!
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) survey has opened today. This is an important survey for our school as it gives parents, teachers and students a chance to provide important feedback about our school. It would be very much appreciated if parents could complete the survey via this link: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/can24
We have another busy term of extra-curricular activities ahead of us starting with ‘Ultimate Frisbee’ for Friday sport for all classes, this will commence next week and will continue for 4 weeks. This is part of the Sporting Schools Grant from the Federal Government that we access every year to expose students to different sports, this one should be lots of fun!. Our school Fete is also coming up in Week 3, Friday 1st November. Teachers will be sending out requests for contributions for their class stalls. Please put this date into your diary, it's one not to be missed!
Wear Red for Daniel Morcombe Day is next Friday 25th October and students are encouraged to bring in a gold coin donation and wear something red to support this great cause. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. Our school conducts child safety education activities throughout the year using the Daniel Morcombe program.
Finally, I would like to wish Miss Pritchard - Year 6 teacher and Primary Assistant Principal, all the best on her wedding day on Saturday and we look forward to welcoming her back in Week 3 as Mrs Chalker. Miss Benjafield will be relieving while Miss Pritchard is away. Welcome back to Mrs Swords who has completed her travels to the far western regions of Australia and thank you to Miss Benjafield for relieving while she was away. We are very lucky to have amazing casual staff at our school.
Term 4 here we come, lots of learning and fun to be had!
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Child Protection Lessons
We are already into Term 4, with the calendar filling fast. An important part of our Health and Personal Development curriculum will be Child Protection lessons. Child Protection is a mandatory area of study for all students in NSW Government schools. These lessons teach children in an age appropriate way how to recognise abuse or unsafe situations and learn strategies for keeping themselves safe. Please contact your child's class teacher next term if you would like more information.
Free Home Internet for Eligible Families
The Australian Government’s offer of free home internet until 31 December 2025 is still available for families with school aged students who have not had an active nbn® network internet service in the previous 14 days through its School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI).
Families can check their eligibility by following these simple steps:
- Contact the National Referral Centre (NRC), operated by Anglicare Victoria, on 1800 954 610, visit their website or email them at studentinternet@anglicarevic.org.au.
- The NRC team will assess the family’s eligibility for the SSBI, including a check of their residential address and current financial situation.
- If eligible, the family will be issued a voucher which can be redeemed at any of the participating SSBI retail service providers. The NRC can also assist with contacting the SSBI internet provider of choice or providing follow-up support.
The NRC is set up to answer questions, assess eligibility, issue vouchers and provide information regarding participating retail service providers. Centre staff can also provide follow-up support for anyone experiencing challenges redeeming the voucher.
For people from non-English speaking backgrounds, or people with accessibility requirements, the NRC can offer translation services through Language Loop. Their website is also equipped with ReciteMe technology.
Families and carers can apply until 31 December 2024. Eligible households will receive free home internet until 31 December 2025.
Our Learner Qualities
The Resilience Project - Parent/ Carer video series
Throughout 2024, we have been working closely with The Resilience Project to support the wellbeing of our school community.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.
Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations and weekly lessons for students, professional development for staff, and Parent & Carer Hub (inc. digital presentations) for our parent and carer community.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the Parent & Carer Hub with you. The videos are 5-10 minutes long and will walk through the key pillars of resilience: Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness. You’ll hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support our kids' learning and development, and also support you as parents and carers.
This program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our community.
View the first presentation of the series here:
