Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
Can you believe we are already halfway through Term 1? Time flies! A big good luck to all our swimmers competing at the district carnival in Grenfell today. We’re proud to have 29 swimmers representing our school, and I’m confident they will showcase their hard work and dedication from the summer months. A heartfelt thank you to Miss Dixon for organising the team and to Mrs. Swords for her support on the day.
We’re excited to announce that in just a couple of weeks, we will be hosting 3-Way meetings for our Kindergarten parents! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teacher, connect with our Infants Assistant Principal, and discuss your child's progress and needs. These meetings will be held face-to-face, and you can schedule your appointment through Sentral. Booking opens today, Wednesday, 26th February, and will close at the end of business the day before each meeting. We look forward to seeing you there! Other grades will be available for bookings in early March, please see dates in 'upcoming events' below.
I’m also pleased to share that our school will continue participating in The Resilience Project, an evidence-based program designed to teach students, staff, and parents about positive mental health strategies. Our staff engaged in Professional Learning last year, and lessons will be taught weekly from K-6. Additional information for parents, including TRG@HOME resources, can be found in the newsletter. Plus, our P&C is funding an informative online session for parents and carers titled Digital Wellbeing for Families, presented by The Resilience Project on Wednesday, 19th March from 6:30-7:30 pm. More details will be shared closer to the date.
As a gentle reminder, please be mindful of parking during pick-up at the end of the day at the Belmore St gate. We kindly ask that you avoid parking in the church yard and along Lola St. Parking should be on Belmore St or Charlotte St to ensure the safety and visibility of all our students, and to help you avoid a hefty $400 parking fine.
We’re looking forward to our first assembly of the year this Friday! Award recipients are listed in today's newsletter, and we’ll also be presenting House Captain badges. All parents and carers are warmly invited to attend. The assembly will begin at 2 pm in the hall.
Lastly, all major school events have been added to the Schoolzine calendar attached to the newsletter platform. Please keep in mind that some dates may change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead!
Kind regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

Our Learner Qualities

Our 5 learner qualities
We are proud to reintroduce our Visible Learning qualities, which are essential traits that empower our students to thrive both academically and personally. These qualities include:
I Am Resilient: Our students learn to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, developing persistence and determination in their pursuit of success.
I Am Creative: We encourage creativity by inspiring students to think outside the box and approach problems with innovative solutions.
I Seek Feedback: Our students understand the value of constructive feedback as a tool for growth, actively seeking input to improve their learning and performance.
I Embrace Challenge: We foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to take on challenges and view them as opportunities for learning and development.
I Am Self-motivated: Our students take ownership of their learning, setting personal goals and striving to achieve them with enthusiasm and commitment.
These Visible Learning qualities are integral to our educational approach, helping students become confident, capable learners who are prepared for future success. Together, we will cultivate these qualities to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
The Resilience Project continued....

Why are resilience and wellbeing important?
● Research shows us that there is a direct link between wellbeing and academics, therefore children who are not emotionally healthy will have difficulty learning. When we are stressed, the part of our brain responsible for learning does not function effectively.
● Calm children can focus and retain more information.
● Resilience enables children to take safe risks without fear of failure.
● The statistics indicate that the number of adults struggling with mental ill health has increased over the years. Statistics also tell us that mental ill health is affecting young people at alarming rates and the onset is getting earlier. Prevention is the key to seeing these figures improve.
