Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are thrilled to share some fantastic news! Congratulations to our cricket team for their impressive victory over Blayney PS yesterday. Every player demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, contributing to a memorable game. The date for our next match will be confirmed soon. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped transport our students, and to Miss Toovey for her dedicated preparation of the team both on and off the field.
Last Friday, our Western swimming athletes participated in a carnival in Dubbo, where they performed admirably and achieved numerous personal bests. We extend our gratitude to all the parents who assisted with transportation and supported our students during the event. A special congratulations to Ryleigh Bowd and Kai Thornberry for qualifying for the State Swimming Carnival in the 50 metres freestyle. This is a remarkable achievement, and we wish you both the best of luck at the end of the term—you will undoubtedly make Canowindra PS proud!
We are also excited to announce that the P&C has funded a parent webinar scheduled for next Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Led by Leah from The Resilience Project, the session will focus on Digital Wellbeing for Families and will last for an hour, with a light supper provided beforehand. We warmly invite all parents to attend and look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce that all executive positions on our P&C committee were filled during Monday night’s meeting. Congratulations to Suzie Nash (President), Jane Dalziell (Vice President), Emma McKenzie (Secretary), and Katy Henry (Treasurer). We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Natika Millar, who has stepped down as President after many years of dedicated service. Your contributions as a volunteer and leader have been invaluable, and we wish you all the best during your hiatus. We hope to see you back in the future!
Lastly, our voluntary school contributions will be sent out today. These contributions have been capped at $55 for the first child, $45 for the second, $35 for the third, $25 for the fourth, and free for any additional children for the year. We want to emphasise the importance of these contributions, as they significantly enhance our students’ educational experiences by providing additional resources, programs, and facilities. While these contributions are voluntary, your support greatly enriches our school community and the learning opportunities available to all students. We appreciate any amount you can contribute and thank you for your continued support.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
Kind regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

PSSA KO Cricket
Canowindra PS Cricket Team Shines in Round 2 Victory
Yesterday, the Canowindra Public School Cricket Team travelled to Napier Park in Blayney to take on Blayney Public School in Round 2 of the NSW PSSA Knockout Cricket Competition. The conditions were perfect for cricket—24 degrees with a cool breeze setting the stage for an exciting match.
Cricket Captain Jack Daly won the toss and elected to bowl first. Our team delivered an outstanding performance in the field, restricting Blayney PS to just 33 runs in 22 overs. Tight bowling and sharp fielding were highlights of the innings, with Blayney PS parents even commending the team’s energy and communication.
After lunch, Canowindra PS went in to bat, with the Nash brothers, Jack and Lachlan, leading the charge. Jack’s first scoring shot was a powerful four over mid-wicket, setting the tone for a confident batting display. With only one wicket lost, our team chased down the target in just five overs, securing a well-earned victory.
Notable Performances:
Batting:
• Jack Nash – 14 runs
• Lachlan Nash – 11 runs
Bowling:
• Jack Daly – 3 wickets
• Lachlan Nash – 2 wickets
• Noah Grey – 1 wicket
• Taliesin Bullock – 2 wickets
• Tight bowling from Sam Markcrow, Jack Trengove, and Dan Greenhill contributed to the lowest number of sundries bowled by our team in years!
Fielding & Wicketkeeping:
• Catches: Sam Markcrow & Jack Daly
• Wicketkeeping: Kayden Smith put in a fantastic effort behind the stumps
• Energy & Enthusiasm in the Field: Will Parker, Oliver Maunder & Fletcher Duguid
With this win, Canowindra PS advances to Round 3 of the competition in the coming weeks. A big thank you to all the parents who helped transport students to and from the game, as well as to Nick Traves for umpiring.
We look forward to the next round—go Canowindra PS!
