Principal's Message

Dear Families,
Firstly, I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Miss Dixon and Mrs. Nash for taking our school leaders to Sydney for the annual leadership conference. From all reports, it sounds like everyone had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful sights and sounds of Sydney Harbour, and they thoroughly enjoyed the speakers the following day. We’re all looking forward to their presentation at assembly next week!
I’m also excited to share that our school has entered two teams for the Rugby League Gala Day in Cowra tomorrow. Mrs. Howard and Miss Dixon will be supervising the teams, and I have no doubt that everyone will have a wonderful day, with rugby league taking centre stage!
Next Friday, April 4th, we will be hosting our Primary Cross-Country Carnival. Permission notes will be sent out soon via the Sentral app, so please ensure these are submitted by next week. We welcome all spectators to join us and cheer on our students!
Additionally, school photos are coming up on Tuesday, April 8th, during the last week of school. Please remember to return the photo envelopes to the office before photo day. Students are required to wear their summer uniforms, so let’s make sure they look their best in their yellow shirts or school dresses. Please note that bike pants, tights, and rugby shorts are not part of our uniform. We’ve noticed some students wearing them, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing our uniform guidelines. We also encourage minimal jewellery, especially for girls—only studs or sleepers are permitted, as dangly earrings, necklaces, and bracelets can pose safety risks during physical activities.
Three-way interviews will be completed today. If you missed booking a time with your child’s teacher, please reach out to them to arrange a meeting before the end of the term.
Lastly, I’m delighted to share that as many of you know, Mrs. Chalker is expecting a baby in June! Kristen Matic and Lauren Toovey will be stepping into the Primary Assistant Principal position during Georgie's maternity leave next term. I’m sure you will join me in wishing them all the best as they transition into these new roles.
Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead!
Kind regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all! We have finally replaced our beloved Queensland bottle tree that we sadly had to cut down back in 2018. Last year's Year 6 students were passionate about bringing back a new tree, and with the help of Mrs. Chalker, we found a beautiful one in Queensland that has now been planted!
To make this occasion even more special, we’ll be celebrating this momentous event alongside our 150-year celebration. In the meantime, our new tree is getting plenty of love and care from Mr. Greg Wright (our relieving GA) and our wonderful students!
Stay tuned for more details about the celebration—we can’t wait to share this joyful moment with you all!
You may have heard the whispers on the street, that there's a Big Party planned. Well it's true!!
2025 marks 150 years of Public Education in Canowindra. There will be lots happening throughout the year culminating in a 'Back to Canowindra' weekend 31st October- 2nd November. Where everyone is encouraged to Come Home to catch up, reminisce and celebrate. Why not organise a class reunion for the same weekend? Watch this space in coming weeks for details about the different events that are planned.

EXCITING OOSH UPDATE!
I'm pleased to announce that we have found a coordinator! The service will start on Monday 14th April for vacation care and continue into Term 2 as before and after school care. Stay tuned for more information. Register your interest ASAP.

Our Learner Qualities

We are proud to reintroduce our Visible Learning qualities, which are essential traits that empower our students to thrive both academically and personally. These qualities include:
I Am Resilient: Our students learn to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, developing persistence and determination in their pursuit of success.
I Am Creative: We encourage creativity by inspiring students to think outside the box and approach problems with innovative solutions.
I Seek Feedback: Our students understand the value of constructive feedback as a tool for growth, actively seeking input to improve their learning and performance.
I Embrace Challenge: We foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to take on challenges and view them as opportunities for learning and development.
I Am Self-motivated: Our students take ownership of their learning, setting personal goals and striving to achieve them with enthusiasm and commitment.
These Visible Learning qualities are integral to our educational approach, helping students become confident, capable learners who are prepared for future success. Together, we will cultivate these qualities to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
