Principal's Message

As we approach the end of the term, I am amazed at how much we have accomplished together. It has been heartening to see everyone settle into a routine of learning while also enjoying their time at school.
Congratulations to our cricket team for their impressive victory over Cowra Public School on Monday! The boys showcased excellent bowling and batting skills, and it is evident that they are improving with each match. We look forward to their next game in the first two weeks of Term 2.
We would also like to extend our best wishes to Kai Thornberry from Year 2 and Ryleigh Bowd from Year 6, who will be competing in the 50m freestyle at the PSSA State Swimming Championships in Sydney at the end of this week. We are confident that both of you will achieve personal best times in what is considered the fastest pool in Australia.
The upcoming holidays will be bustling in Canowindra, with preparations for the Balloon Glow and ANZAC Day ceremonies underway. Our school has been invited to participate in the ANZAC Day March on Friday, 25th April. If you would like to join us, please meet at the corner of Junction Hotel at 10:30 am.
Upon returning for Term 2, we will hold our school ANZAC service on Thursday, 1st May at 10:30 am. Additionally, Year 5 and 6 students will attend the book launch celebrating the past 50 years of public education in Canowindra at Canowindra High School that afternoon. We warmly invite all parents and carers to join us for both events.
Please remember that the last day of this term is Friday, 11th April, and students will return for the new term on Wednesday, 30th April. I wish you all a wonderful holiday filled with family and friends, and I hope you enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and hopefully we get some rain. I look forward to another great term of learning ahead!
Kind regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

PSSA KO Cricket
On Monday, April 7th, 2025, the excitement was palpable as our Canowindra Public School cricket team faced off against the formidable Cowra Public School at the picturesque Canowindra Oval! With the sun shining and spirits high, Captain Sam Markcrow led his team into battle after winning the toss and electing to bowl first. The bowlers delivered an outstanding performance, with Sam Markcrow claiming an impressive 3 wickets! Jack Trengove and Lachlan Nash each added to the tally with 2 wickets apiece, while Noah Grey and Taliesin Bullock also contributed with a wicket each. Oliver Maunder, stationed at square leg, showcased his skills by taking two brilliant catches, helping to bowl Cowra out for just 60 runs! After a quick refuel during lunch, it was time for Canowindra to chase down the target. Jack Nash and Lachlan Nash opened the batting, with Lachlan scoring 6 runs before being bowled. Jack Nash followed up with a solid 15 runs, but it was Sam Markcrow who stole the show with a spectacular 25 not out, including a massive six! The Canowindra team chased down Cowra’s total in just 11.3 overs, sealing a well-deserved victory! This fantastic win propels the Canowindra Cricket team into Round 4 of the NSW PSSA Knockout Cricket competition— the furthest the school has advanced in many years, harking back to the days of Rohan Toole and other cricket legends! Stay tuned as we await the results to see if we’ll be facing off against Lithgow PS or Perthville PS next. Go Canowindra!
