Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we celebrate Reconciliation Week, it's a wonderful opportunity for our school community to reflect on the significance of this important time. Reconciliation Week invites all Australians to learn about and honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's National Reconciliation Week (NRW) theme, "Bridging Now to Next," highlights the vital connections between our past, present, and future. It encourages us to foster relationships and understanding among all Australians as we work toward a more reconciled nation.
We’re also thrilled to share some lovely news from our school community! Last Monday, Mrs. Chalker and her husband, Sam, welcomed their beautiful daughter, little Finella. Both mum and bub are doing well, and we can’t wait to meet her soon. In the meantime, Ms. Toovey will continue to teach 5/6 Blue until next Friday when Mrs. Matic returns from maternity leave to take on the role of Primary AP and class teacher for three days each week. Thank you, ladies, for coordinating your maternity leave!
A friendly reminder to our Year 5 parents to please give permission for the upcoming Canberra excursion and finalise payment by the end of next week. If you’re experiencing any issues with payment, don’t hesitate to contact the school to discuss a payment plan. This excursion is a fantastic opportunity, and we want all students to be able to attend.
Best of luck to our talented dancers heading off to Cowra tomorrow for the annual Cowra Eisteddfod! A heartfelt thank you to Miss Lander, Miss Smith, and all the girls for their hard work and dedication during practice over the past two terms. We can’t wait to see your performances at the Week 8 assembly!
Our boys' and girls' soccer teams will also be off to Cowra this Friday to compete in the gala day. We wish everyone involved the best of luck and extend our gratitude to Miss Dixon and Miss Smith for their commitment to training and managing the teams.
Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead!
Warm regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

EXCITING OOSH UPDATE!
We are thrilled to announce the introduction of an Outside School Hours (OOSH) program at our school! This initiative aims to provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for our students before and after school hours.
To ensure the success and viability of this program, we need your support. We are currently seeking more children to enrol. A robust participation will not only enhance the program's offerings but also create a vibrant community where students can connect, learn, and have fun together.
If you are interested in enrolling your child or would like more information about the OOSH program, please use QR Code to register. Your involvement is crucial in making this program a valuable addition to our school community.
Thank you for your support!

PSSA Girls Touch Football
The girls played their first game of touch football against Mulyan Public last Wednesday. They went into the game with a positive attitude and showed some great skills and sportsmanship. Unfortunately, they didn’t come away with the win, but they worked well as a team and had fun. The final score was 8 – 3 with Sophie, Ella and Mia getting a try each.

PSSA Netball
On Monday, our netball team travelled over to Orange to play in a PSSA netball gala day. Our first game was against Cowra Public and then we versed Blayney Public. In both games, the girls and boys worked well as a team and made huge improvements with their footing and drives. Miss Lander was very proud of all the players and their continued perseverance even through difficult weather conditions. The girls looked very professional in their new netball dresses and had a wonderful time. We look forward to playing again next year!

Our Learner Qualities

We are proud to reintroduce our Visible Learning qualities, which are essential traits that empower our students to thrive both academically and personally. These qualities include:
I Am Resilient: Our students learn to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, developing persistence and determination in their pursuit of success.
I Am Creative: We encourage creativity by inspiring students to think outside the box and approach problems with innovative solutions.
I Seek Feedback: Our students understand the value of constructive feedback as a tool for growth, actively seeking input to improve their learning and performance.
I Embrace Challenge: We foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to take on challenges and view them as opportunities for learning and development.
I Am Self-motivated: Our students take ownership of their learning, setting personal goals and striving to achieve them with enthusiasm and commitment.
These Visible Learning qualities are integral to our educational approach, helping students become confident, capable learners who are prepared for future success. Together, we will cultivate these qualities to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is : K/1
The Resilience Project continued....

How can I get involved and support my child?
● We know that parents and carers often prioritise the health and wellbeing of others before their own. It’s really important to practise regular self-care and our positive mental health strategies are applicable to people of all ages.
● You can play a big role in supporting the development of positive wellbeing habits at home by checking out the Parents and Carers page on our website. Your school may even publish some GEM activities in the school newsletter or other community communication platforms.
● If your child’s school has purchased the Inspire package as part of the School Partnership program, there are five videos by Hugh van Cuylenburg or Martin Heppell for parents/carers explaining the program and our four guiding principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy. These are available on the Parent/Carer Hub.
● Regular gratitude practices have been proven to increase the amount of positives you notice in your day. The Resilience Project 21 Day, 6 Month and Family Journals are a great way to do this and are available (03) 9113 9302 | theresilienceproject.com.au through our online shop.
● The Resilience Project app is another convenient way to regularly practise the GEM+EL principles and is available on iTunes and Google Play.
● The Imperfects podcast, hosted by Hugh van Cuylenburg, Ryan Shelton and Josh van Cuylenburg, celebrates just how imperfectly perfect we all are. Together, they chat to a variety of people who bravely share their struggles and imperfections alongside valuable learnings we can apply to our own lives and use to support the teachings of TRP in the classroom. Guests include Nathan Buckley, Grace Tame, Jack Steele, Zan Rowe, Michael Klim, Billy Slater, Lael Stone, Pat Cummins, Tim Minchin and many more.
● We encourage you to have conversations with your kids about the program and how they are integrating gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy into their lives. Embedding positive mental health practices and language across school and the home lead to greater benefits and understanding.
