Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we embrace the winter season, it seems the weather has been quite mild, and I must say, I’m not complaining! This week has been relatively quiet, providing a welcome respite after a busy schedule of activities last week.
I am pleased to inform you that school photos will be sent home with all students today. I am confident that parents will be delighted with the results, as they have turned out exceptionally well, as is customary with MSP Photography.
Congratulations to all our teams and ensembles that performed last week! The enthusiasm from our students was truly heartwarming. Our netball girls, along with Noah, had a fantastic day in Orange, proudly showcasing their new dresses and uniform. A special thank you to Miss Lander for coordinating the design and managing the team on the day, as well as to our parents for their support in transportation.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to Miss Lander and Miss Smith for their dedication to our dance groups. We were thrilled to achieve a second place this time, a significant milestone after years of striving to break into the top two. Both performances were outstanding and worthy of high commendation. Our senior girls are eagerly anticipating the Western Dance Festival in Bathurst on Tuesday, June 17.
Additionally, Miss Dixon and Miss Smith enjoyed a successful day at soccer on Friday, and I’m happy to share that our boys have advanced to the next round in Lithgow! Well done to all involved.
I am excited to announce that the installation of our new basketball/netball court is complete! We have successfully trialled a new surface over our existing court, which was in need of significant repair. The new court looks fantastic, and we have even added new handball courts, making it a versatile space for everyone to enjoy.
Looking ahead to next week, our Year 5 students will embark on an exciting excursion to Canberra with Miss Dixon and Miss Smith. This trip offers wonderful opportunities to explore Parliament House, The Mint, the Australian Institute of Sport, Questacon, and the Australian National War Memorial, among other attractions. A packing list will be sent home today, and I kindly remind everyone to submit permission slips and payments by Friday at 9 AM to ensure everything is finalised before the group departs early Tuesday morning after the long weekend.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Sharon Hawker
Principal

EXCITING OOSH UPDATE!
We are thrilled to announce the introduction of an Outside School Hours (OOSH) program at our school! This initiative aims to provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for our students before and after school hours.
To ensure the success and viability of this program, we need your support. We are currently seeking more children to enrol. A robust participation will not only enhance the program's offerings but also create a vibrant community where students can connect, learn, and have fun together.
If you are interested in enrolling your child or would like more information about the OOSH program, please use QR Code to register. Your involvement is crucial in making this program a valuable addition to our school community.
Thank you for your support!

Attendance Matters!

We know that it can sometimes be challenging getting your child to school, especially if they are experiencing anxiety or refusing to attend school.
They might be worried about their schoolwork, their friendship circles, playing sports or being away from their family. If you are concerned about your child's attendance at school or any other issues that may affect their attendance, please reach out to your child’s teachers.
We are here to support you and your child to make sure they are ready and engaged at school.
You can also access resources on the department website to support positive conversations with your child about attending school.

PSSA Soccer
Both the boys and girls soccer teams travelled to Cowra last Friday to compete in the first two rounds of the PSSA competition.
The girls played against Cowra PS in their first game. The girls all played well and attacked and defended with improved effort as the game progressed. At the end of full time the score was equal at 4-4, which meant the girls had to play 5 minutes of extra time each way. Unfortunately for us, Cowra were able to score in extra time, therefore they would progress to the next round.
Canowindra played against Grenfell in their second match as a consolation game. The girls all had a go at playing different positions, with everyone having a go and having fun.
The boys played against Cowra PS in their first game as well. The boys were very strong in both attack and defence and played amazingly as a team. The boys came away with the win 3-1.
The boys played their second-round game against Grenfell PS. The game was very evenly matched, and the game was worthy of a final. At the end of the game the score was 1-1, which meant the game needed to go into 5 minutes of extra time each way. Grenfell scored very early on in extra time; however the determination of the Canowindra boys shone through, and they were able to fight back, scoring an amazing team goal. At the end of extra time the scores were still tied at 2-2, however on a countback on corners, Canowindra came out winners.
The boys team will now play the winner of Lithgow PS and Cooerwull PS, with the game to be played later in the term.
Well done to all students on their sportsmanship and team play during the day. Thank you to all parents who transported students to the game.

Our Learner Qualities

We are proud to reintroduce our Visible Learning qualities, which are essential traits that empower our students to thrive both academically and personally. These qualities include:
I Am Resilient: Our students learn to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, developing persistence and determination in their pursuit of success.
I Am Creative: We encourage creativity by inspiring students to think outside the box and approach problems with innovative solutions.
I Seek Feedback: Our students understand the value of constructive feedback as a tool for growth, actively seeking input to improve their learning and performance.
I Embrace Challenge: We foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to take on challenges and view them as opportunities for learning and development.
I Am Self-motivated: Our students take ownership of their learning, setting personal goals and striving to achieve them with enthusiasm and commitment.
These Visible Learning qualities are integral to our educational approach, helping students become confident, capable learners who are prepared for future success. Together, we will cultivate these qualities to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is : 4/5
The Resilience Project continued....

How can I get involved and support my child?
● We know that parents and carers often prioritise the health and wellbeing of others before their own. It’s really important to practise regular self-care and our positive mental health strategies are applicable to people of all ages.
● You can play a big role in supporting the development of positive wellbeing habits at home by checking out the Parents and Carers page on our website. Your school may even publish some GEM activities in the school newsletter or other community communication platforms.
● If your child’s school has purchased the Inspire package as part of the School Partnership program, there are five videos by Hugh van Cuylenburg or Martin Heppell for parents/carers explaining the program and our four guiding principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy. These are available on the Parent/Carer Hub.
● Regular gratitude practices have been proven to increase the amount of positives you notice in your day. The Resilience Project 21 Day, 6 Month and Family Journals are a great way to do this and are available (03) 9113 9302 | theresilienceproject.com.au through our online shop.
● The Resilience Project app is another convenient way to regularly practise the GEM+EL principles and is available on iTunes and Google Play.
● The Imperfects podcast, hosted by Hugh van Cuylenburg, Ryan Shelton and Josh van Cuylenburg, celebrates just how imperfectly perfect we all are. Together, they chat to a variety of people who bravely share their struggles and imperfections alongside valuable learnings we can apply to our own lives and use to support the teachings of TRP in the classroom. Guests include Nathan Buckley, Grace Tame, Jack Steele, Zan Rowe, Michael Klim, Billy Slater, Lael Stone, Pat Cummins, Tim Minchin and many more.
● We encourage you to have conversations with your kids about the program and how they are integrating gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy into their lives. Embedding positive mental health practices and language across school and the home lead to greater benefits and understanding.
