Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 7! As mentioned last week, we have a busy end to the term. Our school leaders survived the deluge in Sydney and were able to experience the sights of Sydney without getting too wet, there may have been a few wet shoes arrive home last night! Thank you to Mrs Townsend and Mrs Duguid for taking the students to Sydney, it’s always a very memorable trip. There will be a full report next week.
Boys to the Bush program starts up again this term with 10 boys from Year 5 and 6 taking part. The boys will enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities over the next 5 weeks.
Good luck to our 19 swimmers who are heading off to Dubbo for the Western Region Trials on Friday. I’m sure everyone will do very well and swim lots of PBs, our swimmers always improve their times in these situations. Miss Dixon will be the Cowra district teacher representative, look out for our yellow tent.
Our first round of PSSA Cricket will commence next Friday 18th March against Cowra Public School. Miss Toovey is the organising teacher and notes etc. will be coming home soon. We will need several parents to transport children to Cowra on this day.
The Rugby League Gala Day in Cowra is coming up in a few weeks’ time. Teams and notes have been finalised. Please don’t forget to return these by next week. Mouthguards and socks are available for purchase at the office for $10 and all children must pay for the bus regardless of travel arrangements.
Class teachers will be contacting parents in the next few weeks to organise PLSP meetings. These will be conducted before the end of the term. We have decided to put off 3 Way interviews till the beginning of next term due to the busyness of this term. In readiness for this, please ensure you can access our Sentral Parent Portal.
Our school has received a final shipment of saliva RAT tests. I know this will make surveillance testing a little easier for our students. These will be sent home with the eldest child this Thursday 10th March. Once again, I thank parents for their diligence around testing and isolating, this has enabled our school to operate at full capacity most days this term.
Thank you to the P&C for organising the Meet & Greet last night at the Canowindra Hotel. There were 7 staff present as well as lots of parents. It was great to see everyone again and revitalise our P&C after a year of being in hiatus.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker
A friendly reminder about pick up at the end of the day at Belmore St gate. Please avoid parking in the church yard and along Lola St. All parking needs to be on Belmore St. This will ensure the safety of all our students.
Checkin Assessment
Students in Year 4 and Year 6 will be completing the Check-in assessment over the next few weeks. The check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment. Student are required to use headphones for the assessment. If your child has a set of headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer, we ask that they please bring them to school in Week 8, 9 and 10.
Latest COVID-19 Advice
If you test positive with a rapid antigen test
Report through the Service NSW websiteExternal link and Service SNW app.External link so you can be linked to important health care support and advice based on your COVID-19 risk. If you or someone in your family can’t register online, please call Service NSW on 13 77 88
If you test positive with a PCR or rapid antigen test, you must:
- Isolate immediately for 7 days. Your household must also isolate for 7 days. If you have a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath after 7 days, please remain in isolation until 24 hours after your symptoms have resolved.
- Tell people who you spent time with from the 2 days before you started having symptoms or 2 days before you tested positive (whichever came first) that you have COVID-19. This includes your social contacts, workplace and/or school.
- Monitor your symptoms. If you are concerned you should call your GP, the NSW Health COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933 or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. If symptoms become severe call 000.
All positive COVID-19 cases should be reported to the school if they have attended school recently.
Returning to school after COVID-19
It is recommended that staff and students that return to school after recovering from COVID-19 do not participate in rapid antigen test surveillance for 28 days (four weeks after recovery) following release from self-isolation. This is due to NSW Health advice that people who have recovered from COVID-19 have a low risk of contracting it again in the following 28 days. After 28 days (from week five after recovery) staff and students may resume participation in RAT surveillance. Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Unwell at school
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
- If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
- If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
- In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
Students who are isolating at home
If a student tests positive or is a close contact they must isolate for 7 days. School work can be accessed via the class' online platform and through the Digital Learnig Resource Hub. This involves learning at home without a teacher.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.

Class in Focus
Year 4/5 have already been talking lots & working hard this year.
In Maths we have been working on revising our addition & subtraction strategies along with multiplication & division.
In English we are focusing on expanding our Narrative writing skills. We have read many different books in our classroom to find examples of how to compose ‘sizzling starts’ & ‘exciting endings’!
Our 1st classroom novel was “Storm Boy”, which gave us lots of talking points, such as Australian geography, pelicans, fishing & how to cope with the death of a beloved pet. We also created a fab pelican collage art work.
I am loving being in the 4/5 Classroom, they are a wonderful bunch of humans.
Mrs Bowden
