Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 8 - Mrs Hawker is on long service leave this week and is trekking through the beautiful Tasmanian wilderness. The Boys to the Bush program started last week and from all accounts the boys had a fantastic day on the river and are looking forward to this week’s activities.
Well done to our swimmers who travelled to Dubbo last Friday for the Western Region Trials. All students represented our school and the Cowra district with pride.
Today Year 6 participated in the first of two check-in assessments. Over the next three weeks, Year 4 and Year 6 students will be completing their check-in reading and numeracy assessments. Year 6 will complete their second check-in assessment on Wednesday 23rd March. Year 4 will complete their check-in assessments on Tuesday 22nd and 29th March. Students are required to have headphones for this test.
This Friday I will be taking 11 primary students to Twigg Oval in Cowra to play cricket against Cowra Public School. The cricket team are eager to put some cherries on their bats and send those bails flying.
Next Tuesday 22nd March, Mr Bates and I will be taking students to the Rugby League Gala Day in Cowra. Mr Bates and the students have been working hard during their lunchtime training sessions and are keen to put their practice to good use.
A quick reminder that class teachers will be contacting parents to organise PLSP meetings. These meetings will be conducted before the end of this term.
3-way interviews will be held early next term. To ensure you’re prepared for this, please ensure that you have access to our Sentral Parent Portal.
Have a wonderful week and remember to wear something orange for Harmony Day on Monday.
Kind regards
Lauren Toovey
Congratulations to Ava Thornberry who took out first place and qualified for state for 11yrs 50m Freestyle and 11yrs 50m Butterfly
A friendly reminder about pick up at the end of the day at Belmore St gate. Please avoid parking in the church yard and along Lola St. All parking needs to be on Belmore St. This will ensure the safety of all our students.
Check-in Assessment
Students in Year 4 and Year 6 will be completing the Check-in assessment over the next few weeks. The check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment. Student are required to use headphones for the assessment. If your child has a set of headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer, we ask that they please bring them to school in Week 8, 9 and 10.
Latest COVID-19 Advice
Last week you may have heard that the Minister released the Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order 2022 (PDF 1,814KB), which commenced at 5pm Wednesday 2 March 2022. The Order revokes and remakes the current Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order (No 4) 2021, with the following amendments relevant to our schools:
- A household contact will only need to self-isolate for 7 days commencing from when the diagnosed person took the test, rather than 7 days from last contact with the diagnosed person.
- A household contact is not obligated to self-isolate as a contact more than once in a 21 day period (if the person is diagnosed with COVID-19, they will need to self-isolate again).
- A person who had COVID-19 and later becomes a close contact or household contact does not need to self-isolate as a contact if it has been less than 8 weeks since the person finished their self-isolation period (up from 28 days in the current Order).
While the source of truth remains the NSW Government website, we have gone ahead and updated references to self-isolation on the relevant department internal and external COVID-19 webpages, as well as linking our staff and families to further information on the NSW Government’s Testing positive to COVID-19 and Information for people exposed to COVID-19 fact sheets.
Refer to Response protocols for COVID-19 cases for further information.
If you test positive with a rapid antigen test
Report through the Service NSW websiteExternal link and Service SNW app.External link so you can be linked to important health care support and advice based on your COVID-19 risk. If you or someone in your family can’t register online, please call Service NSW on 13 77 88
If you test positive with a PCR or rapid antigen test, you must:
- Isolate immediately for 7 days. Your household must also isolate for 7 days. If you have a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath after 7 days, please remain in isolation until 24 hours after your symptoms have resolved.
- Tell people who you spent time with from the 2 days before you started having symptoms or 2 days before you tested positive (whichever came first) that you have COVID-19. This includes your social contacts, workplace and/or school.
- Monitor your symptoms. If you are concerned you should call your GP, the NSW Health COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933 or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. If symptoms become severe call 000.
All positive COVID-19 cases should be reported to the school if they have attended school recently.
Unwell at school
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
- If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
- If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
- In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
Students who are isolating at home
If a student tests positive or is a close contact they must isolate for 7 days. School work can be accessed via the class' online platform and through the Digital Learnig Resource Hub. This involves learning at home without a teacher.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
