Week 11 Term 1 Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have almost made it to the end of the term! Thank you for all your support and understanding over this past term, we couldn’t do it without you. COVID and other illnesses have disrupted some learning this term and they will continue to pose a problem going into the winter months. Take these holidays to recoup and get ready for another productive term. Bear in mind, if you have had COVID you do not need to isolate or test for 12 weeks.
We have several extracurricular activities planned for the end of term. These include the Easter Hat parade this Thursday. All parents are invited to watch this event, it will commence at 2pm in the hall. The Infants students are really looking forward to showing off their creations. The whole school PBL reward will be on this Friday, photos will be posted on our school Facebook page.
Once again we will have a busy start to Term 2. ANZAC Day is on Monday 25th April, just before the beginning of term. All students are invited to attend the town march and service. Students and staff are invited to meet at the corner of the Junction Hotel at 10.20am and our school leaders will be laying a wreath.
Our school term will commence the following day on Tuesday 26th April. Wednesday 27th April is the netball gala day in Cowra, all permission notes are due back by the end of this week. Then Thursday 28th April is our Year 6 Peer Support Camp at Canobolas Scout Camp, permission notes and money are due by the end of this week as well.
School photos were taken yesterday. Due to the high numbers of absenteeism, MSP Photography is conducting a catch-up session at their studio in Orange in the school holidays. See additional details in the newsletter. They will also be coming back to our school early in Term 2 to catch up on any individual photos that were missed.
Have a great holiday! Enjoy the gorgeous Autumn weather and hopefully we get some rain for our crops and gardens.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Latest COVID-19 Advice
You may have heard that the Minister released the Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order 2022 (PDF 1,814KB), which commenced at 5pm Wednesday 2 March 2022. The Order revokes and remakes the current Public Health (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order (No 4) 2021, with the following amendments relevant to our schools:
- A household contact will only need to self-isolate for 7 days commencing from when the diagnosed person took the test, rather than 7 days from last contact with the diagnosed person.
- A household contact is not obligated to self-isolate as a contact more than once in a 21 day period (if the person is diagnosed with COVID-19, they will need to self-isolate again).
- A person who had COVID-19 and later becomes a close contact or household contact does not need to self-isolate as a contact if it has been less than 12 weeks since the person finished their self-isolation period (up from 8 weeks in the current Order).
While the source of truth remains the NSW Government website, we have gone ahead and updated references to self-isolation on the relevant department internal and external COVID-19 webpages, as well as linking our staff and families to further information on the NSW Government’s Testing positive to COVID-19 and Information for people exposed to COVID-19 fact sheets.
Refer to Response protocols for COVID-19 cases for further information.
If you test positive with a rapid antigen test
Report through the Service NSW websiteExternal link and Service SNW app.External link so you can be linked to important health care support and advice based on your COVID-19 risk. If you or someone in your family can’t register online, please call Service NSW on 13 77 88
If you test positive with a PCR or rapid antigen test, you must:
- Isolate immediately for 7 days. Your household must also isolate for 7 days. If you have a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath after 7 days, please remain in isolation until 24 hours after your symptoms have resolved.
- Tell people who you spent time with from the 2 days before you started having symptoms or 2 days before you tested positive (whichever came first) that you have COVID-19. This includes your social contacts, workplace and/or school.
- Monitor your symptoms. If you are concerned you should call your GP, the NSW Health COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933 or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. If symptoms become severe call 000.
All positive COVID-19 cases should be reported to the school if they have attended school recently.
Unwell at school
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
- If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
- If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
- In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
Students who are isolating at home
If a student tests positive or is a close contact they must isolate for 7 days. School work can be accessed via the class' online platform and through the Digital Learnig Resource Hub. This involves learning at home without a teacher.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
