Week 2 Term 2 Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to our Year 6 cohort on another successful Peer Support Camp. Even though the weather gods weren’t kind to us last week, students bonded and learnt valuable skills which they will utilise when Peer Support groups start this week. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Peer Support, all our students are divided into 15 small groups of students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our Year 6 leaders conduct the group lessons (with the assistance of teachers) and encourage and nurture relationships and develop different skills within the group. It’s wonderful to see the growth in leadership throughout the initial training and then during the program over the next 2 terms. Thank you to all teachers involved in the excursion and organising our Peer Support program.
NAPLAN Online for Year 3 and 5 will start next Tuesday. All of the students in these years will sit the writing test on Tuesday followed by reading, grammar and punctuation and numeracy over the course of the next two weeks. Any student who is away will be able to catch up over the period from 10/5 – 20/5 only. Please ensure your child is at school unless sick. The students have had several tests online throughout the course of the last 2 years, they should feel very prepared for these tests, there is no need for any stress or concern, it’s just another online test the students have to do.
All parents and carers are welcome to attend our School ANZAC service on Thursday 5th May at 10:30am in the hall. This is always a very stirring service filled with lovely singing and speeches. Thanks to Miss Dixon and Mrs Clements for organising this occasion.
This Friday will be a very busy day of Cross Country events and Mother’s Day morning tea and stall. All our wonderful mothers are invited to attend our morning tea after the Primary Cross Country at 11am. There will be tea, coffee and cakes as well as a wonderful stall filled with goodies for children to buy either with or without your assistance. The Infants Cross Country will conclude our events, which will start at about 12pm. Of course, dads are welcome to attend our Cross Country events. A huge thank you to our wonderful P&C for their organisation. If you are unable to attend, please send in money with your child, there will be gifts available for purchase for $2, $3, $5, $10.

Latest COVID-19 Advice
As we move into Term 2 and the winter months, the pandemic is expected to continue to have a significant impact on school operations. Below is an update on the health settings in preparation for the start of term.
Positive COVID-19 result
Any student or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 is required to follow NSW Health requirements. Currently, the requirements are:
- isolate for 7 days following the positive test
- leave isolation after 7 days if no symptoms (sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath)
- if there are symptoms after 7 days, then remain in isolation until 24 hours after symptoms have resolved.
Staff and students who return a positive RAT result must register it on the Service NSW app or service.nsw.gov.au website as soon as possible.
If there is a positive case in your child’s class, year or other grouping, your child can continue to attend school in line with NSW Health advice. The School will continue to provide advice on the incidence of positive cases at school.
Changed close contact rules
On 20 April the NSW Government announced close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case will not be required to isolate, provided they comply with NSW Health guidelines.
From 6pm on Friday 22 April, close contacts (defined as a household contact or an individual deemed by NSW Health to be a close contact) will not have to isolate, as long as they have no symptoms and comply with the following guidelines:
- wear a face mask in indoor settings outside the home
- undertake daily Rapid Antigen tests before coming into close contact with people outside their home
- avoid contact with the elderly/immunocompromised
- do not visit aged care, hospitals, disability and correctional facilities unless an exemption applies
- work from home where possible
- notify their employer/educational facility that they are a close contact, and that they are not required to isolate as long as they comply with the above.
Close contacts will need to comply with the above guidelines for 7 days from the time a person in their household tested positive for COVID-19.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
