Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was a frosty start for our 12 competitors and Miss Dixon (Cowra District manager) who headed off to Geurie this morning for the Western region cross country carnival. We wish everyone well and I’m sure they will have lots of fun, let’s hope the sun comes out.
Our athletics carnival has been moved forward to tomorrow, Thursday 16th June due to staffing issues on Friday. All primary students and several Year 2 students who are competing in the running events will need to be dropped at The Oval tomorrow morning before 9am. All buses will be directed to deliver students to The Oval. The carnival will commence at 9am and should be completed by lunch time and the students will then walk back to school with teachers in time for lunch. Please ensure all students have warm clothes, food and water. All spectators are welcome!
Three way interviews are ready and waiting to be booked via the Sentral parent portal/ app. This is a wonderful opportunity to speak with your child and the classroom teacher. The students really look forward to being part of this experience and Semester 1 reports will be given out at the same time. Please see additional information in the newsletter.
We welcomed the first of our three work experience students from the high school yesterday. Jacob Bezett, Bella Gordon and Ella Crump (respectively) will be working at our school for the next three weeks. All of these students are ex CPS students and it will be great to have them back at our school working with all of our classes.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker
If there is a change of routine for your child at the end of the day, please notify the office by 2.30pm.

Year 5 Canberra Excursion
Year 5 left school at 6:30am to go on an excursion to Canberra. First we had recess at the rose gardens. Then we went to the National Electoral Education Centre, where we learnt about voting and the rules of voting.
Soon after, we had lunch at the same rose garden. Next, we had a tour of Parliament House. We learnt about the Senate, The House of Representatives and saw a massive lego building of Parliament House made with 152 690 lego bricks. We also got to make a bill and voted on it.
We went to the Arboretum. We had lots of fun on the swings and in the acorns. We saw all the different trees and we learnt that there are 44,000 different trees spread across 250 hectares.
Later, we arrived at Camp Cottermouth, where we were split into four different groups and went to our cabins to unpack our bags. We also made our beds. It was dinner time and the options were sausage, garlic bread, chicken fried rice, corn and potatoes.
We watched the State of Origin and Queensland won, then we went to bed. The next morning, we had breakfast at Camp Cottermouth and left to go to the embassy tour. We saw different flags and houses. We had recess at Questacon grounds.
Then, we went into Questacon. It was so cool. We went to 7 different rooms and they were all fun and different. At the end of the rooms we went to the shops. Then we had lunch and went to the War Memorial. We were split into three groups and were shown around.
Then we went to the AIS for lunch. We went into the AIS sportex, there were a lot of different activities and challenges. Later we departed Canberra and arrived at Canowindra at 6:40 pm.

Latest COVID-19 Advice
As we move into Term 2 and the winter months, the pandemic is expected to continue to have a significant impact on school operations. Below is an update on the health settings in preparation for the start of term.
Positive COVID-19 result
Any student or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 is required to follow NSW Health requirements. Currently, the requirements are:
- isolate for 7 days following the positive test
- leave isolation after 7 days if no symptoms (sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath)
- if there are symptoms after 7 days, then remain in isolation until 24 hours after symptoms have resolved.
Staff and students who return a positive RAT result must register it on the Service NSW app or service.nsw.gov.au website as soon as possible.
If there is a positive case in your child’s class, year or other grouping, your child can continue to attend school in line with NSW Health advice. The School will continue to provide advice on the incidence of positive cases at school.
Close contact rules
On 20 April the NSW Government announced close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case will not be required to isolate, provided they comply with NSW Health guidelines.
From 6pm on Friday 22 April, close contacts (defined as a household contact or an individual deemed by NSW Health to be a close contact) will not have to isolate, as long as they have no symptoms and comply with the following guidelines:
- wear a face mask in indoor settings outside the home
- undertake daily Rapid Antigen tests before coming into close contact with people outside their home
- avoid contact with the elderly/immunocompromised
- do not visit aged care, hospitals, disability and correctional facilities unless an exemption applies
- work from home where possible
- notify their employer/educational facility that they are a close contact, and that they are not required to isolate as long as they comply with the above.
Close contacts will need to comply with the above guidelines for 7 days from the time a person in their household tested positive for COVID-19.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This weeks Class is:
1/2B have been learning about mime in drama. They have discussed, and experienced, the importance of movement and facial expression in performances. They are becoming very good at using their bodies to tell a story without voice and at responding to one another to create an effective scene. In the images below, you will see a student impersonating a bucket, students mirroring one another, and a still beach scene that the students created.
DRAS1.1 Takes on roles in drama to explore familiar and imagined situations.
DRAS1.2 Conveys story, depicts events and expresses feelings by using the elements of drama and the expressive skills of movement and voice.
DRAS1.3 Interacts collaboratively to communicate the action of the drama with others.
DRAS1.4Appreciates dramatic work during the making of their own drama and the drama of others.
