Week 10 Term 2 Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for a wonderfully busy and productive term. We have managed to get though relatively unscathed; it has been a relentless term for illness but hopefully everyone is on the mend. As the days get longer and warmer, hopefully, we’ll all be back fighting fit next term.
Crunch n sip was a great success last week, the kids thoroughly enjoyed their scrumptious fruit cups and it was great to see so many parents catching up whilst cutting up fruit. Thank you to Eleena for gathering the fruit and troops, we’re looking forward to another one next term.
Three way interviews have been a great success, it’s so valuable having the students present at these meetings and knowing that everyone is involved in the learning of our students. All reports will be sent home today regardless of whether you have booked a meeting or not. If your child is away, they will be sent via the post on Friday. School photos also arrived, and they were sent home yesterday with your child/ren.
This Friday is our whole school PBL reward “Games afternoon” for filling up our rocket with stars. Miss Rinaldo and Mrs Swords went shopping this week and purchased lots of amazing prizes, I’m sure it will be lots of fun for everyone. We will also be celebrating the commencement of NAIDOC week and students are encouraged to wear mufti and come in colours that represent the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags (red, black, yellow, green blue and white). Peer Support groups will also be participating in ATSI games which is something they look forward to every year.
I’d like to wish Mrs Bowden and Ms Clements best wishes as they take leave next term. Mrs Bowden will be replaced by Mrs Miller and Mrs Howard who are both returning from maternity leave and will be job sharing for the rest of the year. Mrs Bowden will be returning to CPS in Term 4 in another role. Ms Clements will be replaced by Emily O’Shea (Tues- Thurs) and Charlotte Groves (Fri), who are both early career teachers and we are looking forward to having them at our school.
On 21 June the NSW Teachers Federation directed its members to strike for 24 hours on Thursday 30 June 2022. As a result of this strike, our school will be non-operational (closed) on this date and no student supervision will be available. This means you will need to make alternative care arrangements on this day for your student/s. To support learning from home, resources can be accessed on the department’s Learning remotely hub. Our focus remains the learning and wellbeing of our students. The department is prioritising work to resolve a new Teachers Award, with dates for arbitration in the Industrial Relations Commission reserved for October.
Term 3 will resume on Tuesday 19th July for all students. Staff will be attending a SDD on Monday 18th July.
Have a great holiday with all your family and friends, stay warm!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Latest COVID-19 Advice
As we move into Term 2 and the winter months, the pandemic is expected to continue to have a significant impact on school operations. Below is an update on the health settings in preparation for the start of term.
Positive COVID-19 result
Any student or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 is required to follow NSW Health requirements. Currently, the requirements are:
- isolate for 7 days following the positive test
- leave isolation after 7 days if no symptoms (sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath)
- if there are symptoms after 7 days, then remain in isolation until 24 hours after symptoms have resolved.
Staff and students who return a positive RAT result must register it on the Service NSW app or service.nsw.gov.au website as soon as possible.
If there is a positive case in your child’s class, year or other grouping, your child can continue to attend school in line with NSW Health advice. The School will continue to provide advice on the incidence of positive cases at school.
Close contact rules
On 20 April the NSW Government announced close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case will not be required to isolate, provided they comply with NSW Health guidelines.
From 6pm on Friday 22 April, close contacts (defined as a household contact or an individual deemed by NSW Health to be a close contact) will not have to isolate, as long as they have no symptoms and comply with the following guidelines:
- wear a face mask in indoor settings outside the home
- undertake daily Rapid Antigen tests before coming into close contact with people outside their home
- avoid contact with the elderly/immunocompromised
- do not visit aged care, hospitals, disability and correctional facilities unless an exemption applies
- work from home where possible
- notify their employer/educational facility that they are a close contact, and that they are not required to isolate as long as they comply with the above.
Close contacts will need to comply with the above guidelines for 7 days from the time a person in their household tested positive for COVID-19.
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
PSSA Soccer Rd 3
Last Wednesday the girls travelled to Grenfell to play their 3rd round match against Grenfell Public School.
Canowindra started off very strong, going straight on the attack. They kept pressuring Grenfell’s back line and Dimity was able to score our first goal. The girls continued to power on and Claire scored our second goal. Grenfell were able to get a goal back before half time, making the score 2-1 at the break.
We came out strong once again in the second half, this time Grenfell began to attack, however our defence was up to the challenge with Emily making some great one on one saves. Charlotte scored our third goal. Unfortunately, Grenfell got a couple of late goals, including their fourth with about 30 seconds left on the clock. Therefore, the final score was 4-3 to Grenfell.
Congratulations to all the girls who showed great improvement from our first game, you all played very well. Well done.
