Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Day/ Colour Fun Run yesterday. We had a huge contingency of parents and extended family visiting our wonderful school. It was so nice to be able to welcome you all back after a two-year hiatus. Our students and teachers were thrilled to show you around our classrooms and share the great work that everyone does every day. It was topped off by our very colourful fun run, which never ceases to amaze me how much fun and enjoyment the kids get out of it, they love it! We do it for them and it also manages to raise some amazing money for our P&C, which ultimately benefits our students.
Good luck to our budding athletes who will be participating in the Cowra District carnival this Friday. However, the weather forecast is for rain. If it is postponed, all parents will be notified as soon as we hear anything.
A reminder that if you receive an absent SMS message, you can reply free of charge. Additionally, a friendly reminder regarding drop off/ pick up. If you are the first to arrive at the drop off point on Belmore St, please pull up at the post adjacent to the playground equipment, not at the front gate. This will allow other cars to pull up behind each other and will will stop the back log of cars from the gate to the church entrance.
The Year 4 Blue Mountains excursion is in the final stages of planning. The cost will be approximately $210. Parents can start paying this off if they wish. The excursion will be in Week 9, 15-16 September. Ms Laurie and I will be the supervising teachers. We haven’t been able to go on this excursion for the last 2 years, so we are very much looking forward to sharing this experience with our students again. Permission notes and information will be sent out in the next few weeks.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker
If there is a change of routine for your child at the end of the day, please notify the office by 2.30pm.
Open Day/ Colour Fun Run
A great day was had by all. The fog lifted and we welcomed many parents, grandparents and other family members at our school for Open Day. Thank you all for coming! Everyone enjoyed a lovely sausage sizzle for lunch, thanks Mr Ellis and the finale of the day was our Colour Fun Run. We have raised over $8000 so far. Sponsorship closes next week. If it gets up to $10 000, Mrs Swords and Mrs Hawker will get slimed.

Thank you to Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre (CINC) for generously donating lego to our school. Each class was lucky enough to receive multiple boxes of lego and we were able to purchase trolleys to store these in the classrooms. We are so grateful for your contribution to our school and the wider community.

Peer Support Trivia Day
Last Friday our Peer Support groups participated in a trivia session as part of our Peer Support Program. There were lots of questions every child could answer which were applicable to their class and/ or teacher. Everyone had lots of fun and learnt interesting facts about each other. Group 8 were the winners and they will get their prize this Friday. Thank you to Mrs Pearce and all the teachers who submitted their questions - who would have thought Mrs Bowden was a cowgirl in NT!

Latest COVID-19 Advice
COVID-smart settings in Term 3
The COVID-smart settings students, staff and communities have become used to will continue in Term 3 including:
In addition to these baseline settings, we will be providing some additional layers this term as extra protection for our staff, students and school communities, including:
|
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
Community Health Centre
In Canowindra, we are very fortunate to have access to a speech therapist and other vital services at our Community Health Centre. In support of the 2022 Speech Patholgy Week, students in K-2 are entering a colouring competition. Our local speech therapist, Bianca, will be judging the entries and announcing a winner later in the month.
