Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Cowra District athletics carnival went ahead in trying conditions last week. Despite the weather, our students performed very well, and we have over 20 students progressing to the next round. Miss Dixon has included a report in the newsletter, however, not all results are available. Once we have these, we will finalise the team to go to Western in Week 9. K-2 will be having their mini version of an athletics carnival tomorrow at 11:40am – 12:45pm. All parents/ carers are welcome to attend.
Mrs Matic will be starting maternity leave next Monday 29th August. We wish both Mrs Matic and her husband all the best as they begin the next exciting chapter of their lives together and we look forward to meeting their new little bundle of joy. I’m also pleased to announce that Mrs Pearce will be taking over the class on Monday for the rest of the year. Mrs Pearce has been on leave for most of the year and is looking forward to returning to Stage 1.
Miss Rinaldo is also taking leave for several weeks and Mrs Wise will be taking Kindergarten during this time. Mrs Wise teaches Kindergarten on Wednesdays and is looking forward to being on class fulltime for the next 3 weeks.
I’d also like to congratulate Mrs McLaughlan on 30 years of service with the Department of Education. This is huge milestone, and we are very lucky to be able to work with someone with so much knowledge and experience. Donna is willing to continually learn and evolve in the ever-changing space of Education and consistently gets great results from her students. Thanks for all the years of dedication Mrs Mac, well done!!!
There are several excursions which are coming up in the next couple of weeks, please see the newsletter for more information. All permission notes are to be completed via the Sentral Parent app. Payments can be made via the school website, see flyer regarding the new and improved access to payments.
Thank you to several of our school leaders for helping out at the Canowindra Preschool Cookbook photoshoot last week. Our students were great helpers and were very surprised at how all the playground equipment had shrunk!
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

The first of our transition to school sessions concluded on Monday. We have enjoyed the last 4 weeks with this amazing group of young people. District Athletics Carnival
Well, last Friday goes to show that Canowindra kids really are true champions. The weather was not on our side in what were bleak, dreary, wet conditions, Canowindra Public School kids ran, jumped and threw amazingly. They supported each other from the first race of the day until the last. Congratulations to all children who competed.
This year Western has changed their rules.

Only 1st place will go through for the 1500m, and 1st and 2nd place will go through for the 800m.
Western Trials will take place in Dubbo on Friday 16th September. All information will be given to children on Friday with their certificates at assembly. Full results will be in next week’s newsletter when we receive them.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This weeks Class is: 1/2 L
1/2L have been learning about length in mathematics. We used paper clips to measure the length of our feet and hands, as well as the distance around our wrists and ankles. We even used the paper clips to measure the distance around our head! We had lots of fun and worked well as a team. We embraced the challenge and did not stop trying even when it got tricky! MA1-9MG

Latest COVID-19 Advice
COVID-smart settings in Term 3
The COVID-smart settings students, staff and communities have become used to will continue in Term 3 including:
In addition to these baseline settings, we will be providing some additional layers this term as extra protection for our staff, students and school communities, including:

Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
Community Health Centre
In Canowindra, we are very fortunate to have access to a speech therapist and other vital services at our Community Health Centre. In support of the 2022 Speech Patholgy Week, students in Year 1 and 2 entered the Speech Therapy Week Colouring-in Competition. Our local speech therapist, Bianca and her friends at Canowindra Community Health will be selecting a winner. We can't wait to hear their decision!
