Week 10 Term 3 Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Ms Laurie and I had the pleasure of taking Year 4 on the Blue Mountains excursion last week. We had a great trip and saw lots of interesting aspects of the Blue Mountains including the historic Hartley village, Blue Mountains World Heritage Centre, Museum of Fire and Scenic World. We did several walks to the top and bottom of Katoomba Falls as well as in and around the Three Sisters at Echo Point. We had wonderful tour guides throughout the excursion and the students learnt lots of interesting facts about the Aboriginal culture and history of the mountains. It’s a truly amazing place and it was wonderful to see the expression of excitement and awe on the faces of the kids as we experienced each place. Well done Year 4!
Congratulations to our wonderful athletes and parents/ carers for embracing the road closures to Dubbo last Friday in order to get to Western Athletics carnival. From all accounts everyone got to compete and a huge thank you to Mrs Pengilly for making sure everyone knew where they needed to be. Well done to Jay Burn for getting through to the PSSA State carnival in October. Jay came second in 100m and 200m. This is a huge achievement, as the carnival is usually dominated by city schools. Good luck Jay, we look forward to cheering you on!
Permission notes were sent home last week via the Sentral Parent app for the Whole School Peer Support excursion to Orange which will be taking place the first Wednesday back in Term 4 (12th October). This excursion signifies the end to Peer Support and it’s a great way to finish off, with all of our leaders and groups having a great time together at ten pin bowling and at the Adventure Playground. Permission notes and money are due in by the end of this term, due to the tight turn around at the beginning of Term 4. So far we have only a half of parents give permission and a quarter have paid. Unfortunately, if I don’t get a better response by the end of the week, I will have to cancel the excursion.
I’d also like to thank Miss Emily O’Shea who has been completing her final year internship on Year 5/6 with Miss Dixon as well as teaching in the library for 3 days a week while Ms Clements has been on leave. Emily has fitted brilliantly into our school and has done a great job. We all wish her well as she ventures out into fulltime teaching back in Newcastle.
This Thursday we will observe a public holiday - National Day of Mourning following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, and Friday will be the last day of this term. Students will recommence Term 4 on Monday 10th October. There is no Staff Development Day at the beginning of Term 4.
There is also an increasingly significant number of students who don’t have hats. Going into Term 4 all students will need to have hats otherwise they will be very limited to where they can play at recess, lunch and sport. Additionally, we have a huge number of lost property at the office, feel free to come and claim some lost items.
Have a wonderful holiday, hopefully we get some warm, dry days!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Year 4 Blue Mountains Excursion
Year 4 Blue Mountains Excursion
On Thursday morning, at 8 o’ clock, all the year 4’s got on a bus to go to the Blue Mountains.
After about 2 hours we arrived at Hartley and had our recess. After we ate we met our guide Lester, he talked about the first settlers and how they thought that the First Nation People were taking their land. Then we went to an old courthouse and had a mock trial. I was a witness and Eloise was a magistrate. (She was made for that job!) After that we went to the officers room where we saw the cells that the convicts had to stay in while the magistrate came to the town. The cells were REALLY small. Then we saw the cat´o nine-tails. When someone got whipped, the lashes had a bit of iron on the end and it would tear into the skin and rip out their skin! It could give them an infection and they could DIE! After that we went to an old church, there was an organ that had to be pumped with air. I got to play the organ and I played ´twinkle twinkle little star´. We thanked Lester then we got back on the bus to go to Katoomba.
We went to the Cultural Centre in Katoomba to have our lunch then had a really cool kind of tour about the Blue Mountains. The first people to cross the Blue Mountains were Gregory Blaxland, William Charles Wentworth and William Lawson in 1813.
Then MORE driving to Penrith to the Museum Of Fire Where we learnt about the history of fire trucks and fire service. After that we went back to Katoomba to our accommodation where we stayed. We had dinner then saw our rooms. We had a shower and went downstairs to play some games and have a check outThen we went to bed.
Next morning we had breakfast and packed up to go to the lookout near the 3 Sisters. They were beautiful. We went for a walk then went to Scenic World. Our guide Eric took us onto a cable car, Skyway and THE WORLD'S STEEPEST RAILWAY! It was very steep. Then we went for a walk in the rainforest, it was AMAZING! Then we rode the railway up and went shopping, then we had a delicious lunch. After, we had an Aboriginal guide talk about her people and their lives. Then we went to another lookout and I think it was one of the best. You could see a waterfall and a beautiful view of the Blue Mountains.
Then we had afternoon tea and got on the bus for the last time to go home.
I think we all enjoyed the Blue Mountains excursion. We were tired but very happy when we got home.

Year 4 Blue Mountain Excursion 2022
On Thursday morning we had to wake up quite early to get ready to hop onto the bus. Our first stop was Hartley Village, it was really old but incredibly beautiful. It was like being in the 1800’s. We stayed for roughly 2 and a half hours.
After that we drove to the cultural centre and had lunch. We had a look around and it looked pretty interesting, we learnt things from the past.
Our next stop was Hartley House, (our accommodation) we had a lot of choices for dinner. After dinner we went to our rooms, had showers, got in our pjs and went downstairs to play some games before bed.
On Friday we woke up at about 7am, packed our bags and
went downstairs to have breakfast. We had so many choices of cereal and we also had a hot breakfast. We had a choice of hash browns, bacon, eggs and toast. After breakfast we packed up the bus, and drove over to the Three Sisters and had a walk. Our next destination was Scenic World. We went on the skyway, cableway, railway and a walk to the bottom of Katoomba falls. After that we went to the store there and bought a couple things with our $20. We had to go home after that and we got home at about 6:30. Year 4 loved the Blue Mountains excursion!

Latest COVID-19 Advice
|
Parents need to be aware that our school operates under strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day of a scheduled school year. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. Please call the school or send a note in within 3 days of absence.
