Week 7 Term 4 Newsletter 2022

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a difference a week makes! Waters have subsided and Canowindra seems to be back to business as usual. We are all thinking of the people we know in Eugowra and beyond and hope for a speedy recovery. Our roads are open again and all our buses are running and it’s great to see everyone back at school.

We’re all excited for our School Concert tomorrow at 12pm. There will be a dress rehearsal today at 12pm and anyone who can’t attended tomorrow is invited to come today. The dress rehearsal also enables our students to watch the other classes’ performances. I’d like to thank all of our wonderful teachers for the hard work they have been putting in for the last two terms, we’re looking forward to the songs and dances that they have chosen and choreographed for us all to see. The main aim of this concert is to have fun and enjoy the students’ smiling faces and have a great time.

It's hard to believe but Swim School starts next Monday for all Year 2 and selected Primary students. Permission is to be granted via the app, there is also a mandatory note which needs to be completed and returned by Friday. This was sent home on Monday to all students, it can also be found in Forms on the app. Please make sure your child has swimmers, towel, rashie, $3 for pool entry (unless they have a season ticket) and warm clothes/ jumper to put on afterwards, if it is cold.

Primary swimming for sport will continue on Friday after a week off due to the floods, please make sure everyone has swimming gear and money as well.

Congratulations to Spencer Markcrow who has been selected to play in the Western Region Cricket team as a wicket keeper and batter. He tried out last Friday and will play at Lismore in March next year. What a great achievement! 

Year 6 Burrendong Excursion is fast approaching, thank you to everyone who has registered, payment is due in 2 weeks’ time.

Our Whole School Presentation Day will be held on Tuesday 13th Dec at 9:30am. We don’t need to split Infants and Primary this year and everyone is invited to attend.

Class in Focus

Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is : Year 4/5

In term 4, Year 4/5 have been working in collaborative groups to analyse and compose various types of recount texts. Students are pictured here completing a jigsaw activity. This activity requires students to break off from their home group into expert groups. Here they become an expert in a feature of a recount. Students then return to their home group and share their expert knowledge as well as learn from their peers.

Attention Year 5 for 2024 Selective Schools

End of Year Staff Development Day Information

Students will now finish school on Thursday 15 December 2022.

This is due to an additional School Development Day announced for staff across NSW public schools. While many other schools will hold their last student day on Friday 16 December, CPS will have a different arrangement due to our students attending school on Monday 26th April 2022 in lieu of the state wide School Development Day in Term 2. 

School Development Days allow our staff to participate in professional learning that was put on hold due to COVID-19 staffing pressures and to plan ahead for 2023 to ensure we meet the needs of our students.

With this change, we ask that you arrange alternative care for your child on Friday 16 December.

You can find local vacation care services for your child via the Before and After Care School Finder https://finder.service.nsw.gov.au/.

While there will be no classes on Friday 16 December.

Sentral Parents App

We have only a couple of parents/carers that are yet to download the Sentral Parents App. Please go to the App store on your mobile and follow the prompts.

Log in with the email address or username and password previouly used to book you 3 Way Interview.

If you have not previously logged in - go to register now and create your account.

You will then receive an verification email to the email address you entered. Go to your emails and click on  verify. 

You are then taken to the Canowindra Public School Student and Parent Portal Log in. Enter email address or username and password and log in. Then go to My Access and type in your access key, if you are unsure of your access key, please call the office for assistance.
