Week 6 Term 1 Newsletter 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Where has the term gone! We are halfway through the Term 1 and it’s been a busy start to the year. Good luck to all our swimmers who are competing at the district carnival in Cowra today. I’m sure there will be lots of PBs and our swimmers will shine through with all the hard work they have been putting in over the summer months.
Our Stage 3 AFL girls team will be playing in Orange on Friday at the Central West carnival. Thank you to Miss Chadwick for coordinating the girls and to parents for transporting them to Orange for the day. I’m sure they will have as much fun as they did in Cowra.
We have 3 Way Interviews coming up in Week 8. Please make sure you can access the Sentral portal, as this is where you will be able to make 3 Way Interview bookings from 9am tomorrow morning. We would love to see as many parents as possible. Please see additional information in newsletter. Kindergarten parents are not required to attend these meetings as they were conducted at the beginning of the year. Additionally, Beststart parent reports were sent home with students at the beginning of the week.
A friendly reminder about pick up at the end of the day at Belmore St gate. Please avoid parking in the church yard and along Lola St. All parking needs to be on Belmore St. This will ensure the visibility and safety of all our students and ensures you don’t get a hefty $400 parking fine.
Next Monday and Tuesday our school leaders are off on their annual trip to Sydney for the Young Leaders Conference. This is always a wonderful experience and this year the group will again be meeting Her Excellency the Governor General and having a tour of Government house. Thanks to Mrs Pengilly and Mr Swords for taking the group to Sydney this year.
Good luck to Spencer Markcrow who will be representing our school with Western Region at the PSSA Cricket Carnival in Ballina next week. Last Friday, Freya McCaffery competed at the NSW Junior State Championships at Homebush in the Hammer throw. She threw 19.91m, taking home a bronze medal. Well done, Freya.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Attendance
Parents need to be aware that our schools operate under very strict guidelines from the NSW government concerning the attendance of students. A child must attend school every day from 9am to 3pm of a scheduled school year. It is a parent's responsibility to ensure that this happens, and it is the school’s responsibility to keep accurate records of attendance. The school is not permitted to approve leave for any reason other than illness, exceptional family circumstances or occasional absence for elite sporting or cultural participation. This may seem severe, but all schools must adhere to these guidelines. Most leave, other than sick will be designated as “explained but unjustified”. If we do not recieve an explaination within 2 weeks, it will be marked as "absent unexplained". Please respond to our absent SMS, they are free of charge.
Introducing our Learner Qualities
These qualities will be referred to in all lessons and will give students the necessary skills to become lifelong learners. Stay tuned for more news on these learner qualities via our newsletter and Facebook.
Big Childcare
As you may be aware, the NSW Department of Education (the Department) has selected a successful provider, Big Childcare Pty Ltd, for the provision of before and after school care services for our school. You can find more information about Big Childcare on their website: https://bigchildcare.com/
The provider is working closely with the Early Childhood Regulator to confirm service approval for as many services as possible, however a start date for this service cannot be confirmed until service approval is finalised.
The Department is aware of the importance of this service for our community and is working to find an alternative arrangement to support families in the meantime.
