Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the lovely weather. It was great to see Canowindra benefiting from all the activities over Easter and Balloon Glow weekends. Thank you to all the students and staff who marched at yesterday’s Anzac parade. You were all amazing and represented our school with pride.
It was great to see all students return to school today after almost 3 weeks off school. Staff participated in a Staff Development Day on Monday. The Department of Education mandated a day of professional learning on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. We were fortunate to book a tour with Gerald Power (proud indigenous man and Deputy Mayor of Orange) and have him take us to significant sites in our local area. We went to Gerald’s bush tucker garden, Yuranigh’s grave, Borenore Caves and Mt Canobolas. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and learnt so much about our local ancient history. We will be incorporating these sites into an annual local excursion for our students this year.
Year 6 will be participating in their Peer Support training tomorrow at Moorbel Hall with their class teachers. This is an important program which gives the students important skills to lead their peers once Peer Support starts this term. They will also be traveling to Orange next Monday to have a fun day out at Ten Pin Bowling and the Ninga Warrior course.
We also have a busy start to the term with Boys to the Bush, Rugby 7s, PSSA Cricket and Netball all in the first two weeks of school. Thank you to parents who have volunteered to transport students, we really appreciate your help.
I’d like to welcome Miss Josette Lynch to our school this term. Josette will be doing her final internship for 10 weeks and will be primarily working with 3/4 B and on library. I’d also like to farewell Ms Tracy Clements, who has resigned to take on another government role. Tracy has worked at Canowindra PS for 21 years and she has been a great advocate for our staff and students. She will be sorely missed. All the best in the next chapter of your life.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

PBL Focus - CPS Wellbeing Program
Stewart House Donation Drive 2023
Every year, 1,600 public school children attend our safe haven next to Curl Curl beach at no cost to their parents or carers. During a 12-day stay, they are provided with dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment.
Children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their overall wellbeing.
This experience provides children with a much-needed break from their current circumstances. Our children are inspired to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.
Please donate to Stewart House for a chance to win a $4,000 GIFT VOUCHER.
STEP 1 - Collect an envelope from the office at school.
STEP 2 - Fill out information on the envelope, insert a donation of at least $2 into the envelope and seal it.
STEP 3 - Return the envelope to our school office by 10th May 2023.
Thank you for your support.
