Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a great start to the term! Classes are really settles and there’s some great learning going on. Year 6 had a wonderful 2 days at Peer Support Camp. The first day was spent at Moorbel Hall completing their leadership activities in readiness for Peer Support groups which will be starting this week. They then went to Orange and had lots of fun on the Ninja Warrior course and Ten Pin Bowling. Several boys went to Boys to the Bush last Friday in Forbes. They helped in the community garden, did some shopping and went fishing, a fun day was had by all.
Our PSSA knockout rounds have started. Rugby 7s was in Orange yesterday. Our 3/4 team has made it through to the next round in Dubbo after a forfeit. However, they received some one-on-one coaching from the Waratah’s development officers and had a great day. Our senior team played well against several well drilled Orange schools and showed huge improvement throughout the day. Thank you to all the parents who helped transport students, and to Miss Groves and Mrs Swords for supporting and cheering on the students throughout the day.
Our cricket team is playing in Orange today after many rain delays at the end of last term. I’m sure they will do very well and we’re looking forward to hearing all about their day. The first round of the PSSA netball will be played in Canowindra on Friday, good luck to all the girls, spectator welcome! Teams are getting finalised for girls touch football and boys’ soccer and rugby league at the moment, stayed tuned for information about these upcoming events.
We had a very productive P&C meeting and dinner on Monday night at the Canowindra Hotel. There are a few fund raising events happening in May, including Mother’s Day stall next Friday 12th May (9-11.30am) and District Cross Country Friday 26th May (8.30-12.30pm). If you can help for an hour or so at one or both of these events, that would be very much appreciated. Please contact the P&C Facebook page if you can assist.
Finally, flood relief funds cannot be used to pay voluntary school fees, these need to paid independently by parents.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Class In Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is : 3/4B
Year 3/4B are lucky to have Ms Lynch joining our class this term and teaching fundamental movement skills in PE. The students learnt how to dodge and did lots of fun activities and games to help them refine the skill.
PD2-4 Performs and refines movement skills in a variety of sequences and situations
Rugby 7s
Yesterday our Stage 2 and 3 rugby teams attended the Rugby 7s competition in Orange. Unfortunately, all the other Stage 2 teams withdrew, but our stage 2 boys were lucky enough to have intensive skills and drills sessions with the NSW rugby representatives. The stage 3 team started off a bit shaky, but thanks to the parents, their expertise and a quick training session, they improved out of sight by the end of the day. We ended up with 3 tries and some very happy kids.
A big thank you to the parents who transported their children to and from and helped the teachers with the rugby rules and lingo. Much appreciated!

Peer Support Leadership Day 1- Moorbel Hall
On Thursday week 1, Year Six students caught a bus over to Moorbel Hall for their peer support excursion. We arrived around 9:20 and started a whole group activity. We had to pick out a card on the floor and describe why it is a good requirement to have in peer support. Afterwards we all got put into three groups and did loads of activities based on different categories for peer support. One of my favourite activities was the modeling clay activity, where there were two people on a chair and one artist. We had about a 30 minute recess break and did some more awesome activities in our group. After our lunch break we did another whole group activity ( all groups combined ) and talked about the amazing day that we did. We headed back to school after a great experience.

Boys to the Bush
Last Friday the boys visited the Forbes Community Garden to meet and greet some of the elderly members, as well as plant some new seedlings and tidy up the garden plot. Upon arrival the boys all met Nina and introduced themselves. She showed the boys around and helped get them started on their jobs. At the conclusion of the visit the boys all thanked Nina for her time and she invited them back anytime they wanted. We will return in a few weeks to see how the plants are doing. We were impressed by the respect the boys showed the members and the equipment.

With our program we like to involve the boys in all aspects. So the boys got to help do the shopping for morning tea and lunch. We split into 2 groups and made our way to Woolworths and the Butcher. The boys discussed the things we would need and tried to estimate the price. At the butcher the boys chatted with the owner and watched him slice the meat before he put it in the tenderiser. Back at the shed they enjoyed helping prepare some of the lunch before we all sat around chatting and enjoying the food. When lunch was finished, they enjoyed a few games of table tennis and basketball before we headed to Forbes Lake.
For our final activity, the boys got to make their way to the Lake Forbes to try their luck with fishing. Today was not a great day with the weather turning on some strong winds. This did not deter the boys and they managed to catch some carp. As part of the challenge with the fishing we like give them 2 rods they must share around and a hand line each. We stressed the importance of teamwork and catching as many fish as possible was the outcome they should be working towards. We had a great first day with the boys and we hope they enjoyed themselves. We look forward to helping this group become the best versions of themselves they can be.

Stewart House Donation Drive 2023
Every year, 1,600 public school children attend our safe haven next to Curl Curl beach at no cost to their parents or carers. During a 12-day stay, they are provided with dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment.
Children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their overall wellbeing.
This experience provides children with a much-needed break from their current circumstances. Our children are inspired to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.
Please donate to Stewart House for a chance to win a $4,000 GIFT VOUCHER.
STEP 1 - Collect an envelope from the office at school.
STEP 2 - Fill out information on the envelope, insert a donation of at least $2 into the envelope and seal it.
STEP 3 - Return the envelope to our school office by 10th May 2023.
Thank you for your support.
