Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope all our mothers and significant females had a wonderful day on Sunday. A huge thank you to our P&C for putting together another wonderful stall full of gifts. This year the P&C sourced several ranges of gifts from local businesses which was a huge success, and it was great to give back to the community that supports us so well.
We are having a busy week of extracurricular activities. These include PSSA Rugby League on Tuesday where we played two rounds of the knockout competition. We narrowly lost to Oberon in our first game and drew with Orange PS who were a very well drilled side. Thank you to Mrs Howard for organising the team and to our parents for transporting and helping out on the day, it takes a team effort!
Our netballers are playing their second round match tomorrow in Cowra against Cowra PS. Then on Friday Ms Laurie will be taking our touch football girls to Cowra to play Mulyan PS. Good luck to both of these teams and once again thank you to our parents for transporting the students to and from Cowra.
The Year 5 Canberra excursion permission notes and camp information will be sent home this afternoon. As always this is going to be another great trip. Unfortunately, Parliament won’t be sitting, however, this allows our kids to get down onto the floor of the Senate and House of Representatives. Fingers crossed the weather gods are kind to us. The cost is $215 per student and can be paid off in instalments or the Flood Relief funding can be used. Class teachers will be sending home additional information in the coming weeks.
It's Walk to School Safely Day this Friday. We’d like to encourage as many students as possible to walk/ ride to school safely. Our bus students will be dropped off at the bottom of level 3 and Miss Lander and Mrs Laurie will meet the students there. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone walk to school on Friday.
Finally, I’d like to inform our school community that Miss Benjafield will be leaving us at the end of Week 6 to travel the world. We have been very lucky to have Miss Benjafield at our school and she will be dearly missed. We all wish her well with her adventures and hope to see her back at CPS one day. Mrs Miller and Mrs Howard will be slotting into this position in Week 7 and Miss Toovey will be returning from maternity leave as AP C&I.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

PSSA Classic Shield Rugby League
The Canowindra Public School PSSA rugby league team travelled to Bathurst on Tuesday to play the first round of the PSSA Classic Shield. We met Oberon Public School in our first round and unfortunately lost 14-4. Congratulations to Will Swords for scoring our try in this game. This score was not a true representation of how the team played. There was fantastic teamwork and some remarkable individual runs from players on our team. We were very unlucky not to have another 2 tries on the board for Ava Thornberry and Claire Pengilly.
We played a second match against Orange Public School to finish the day which finished in a draw. Congratulations to Will Swords and Max Wilson on scoring tries in that game. It was very evident how much the team had improved from their first match.
Mrs Howard would like to thank the students for their sportsmanship and wonderful behaviour througout the day. Also thank you to Brian Swords and Belinda Neville for helping to transport players to and from the field as well as the parents and grandparents who took the time to come and watch and support our team.

Check -in Assessment
Students in Year 4 and Year 6 will be completing the Check-in assessment over the next few weeks. The check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment. Students are required to use headphones for the assessment. If your child has a set of headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer, we ask that they please bring them to school.
Walk Safely to School Day - Friday 19th May 2023
This Friday is Walk Safely to School Day. If possible we would love students to walk all or part of the way to school. We will be organising the buses to drop students at the bottom of level 3 so they can walk up to the school gate. Miss Lander and Ms Laurie will be at the bottom of Level 3 on Tilga Street and Belmore Street handing out sticker tattoos to students who participate.
Infants Cross Country
Infants Cross Country is being held this THURSDAY 18th May at 12:30pm. Students will run a lap or 2 of the school oval. Parents are welcome to attend. Sports clothes need to be worn.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is: 1/2
1/2 have been studying the text "The March of the Ants" this Term, while learning about representation. Students have learnt that in imaginative texts, we can give things such as ants made-up features. The ants in this story can talk, read, and use maps!
Using our skills in retelling and illustration, we created our own version of The March of the Ants using Google Jamboard to create a digital text. Everyone created an ant for the front cover, then students worked in small groups for the illustrations.
Mandatory School Visitor Check-in
School Visitor Check-in for School Visitors, Parents, Contractors is a mandatory reliable digital sign-in system for New South Wales' public schools.
