Week 5 Term 4 Newsletter 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I had the pleasure of organising lunch for Year 4/5 today as part of their PBL class reward - ”Lunch with the Principal”. Thank you to Canowindra Bakery for catering for the lunch today; the students, Miss Arber and I enjoyed our “proper sit down lunch” in the canteen area. I’d also like to farewell Miss Arber who will be leaving our school due to personal reasons at the end of the week. Anita has been a wonderful asset to our school this year and she will be missed. I’d like to welcome Mrs Heidi Bowden and Miss Phoebe Chadwick, who will be sharing this important role until the end of the year.
Well done to the 5/6 classes on completing their Monster Marathon last week. The weather was fine and the road works completed which enabled the students to run round the school about a 1000 times! They did a great job and look forward to collecting their money to go towards their Year 6 present for the school. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers for organising another successful event.
Level 3 restrictions are still in place due to the high risk setting of schools, which means we still need to maintain cohorts, mask wearing indoors for staff and good hygiene practices, however, there have been some changes to what is allowed under Level 3. Please see further information in the newsletter, however, the most significant change is day excursions being allowed from November 8. This will allow us to forge ahead with our proposed plans for the end of year with several cohorts.
A huge reminder to parents to ensure their children have school hats. They need them for play, PE and sport otherwise they have to sit in the shade. It is not advisable to share hats, therefore we require every student to have their own so that they can enjoy playing with all their friends.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Level 3 Restrictions - Revised
SCHOOL STUDENTS ENJOY MORE FREEDOMS
FROM NOVEMBER 8
More restrictions are easing in NSW public schools, allowing students to enjoy additional activities safely at school in line with current community settings.
Changes to settings includes allowing fully vaccinated extra-curricular providers on school site, as well as some music classes and bands, day excursions and assemblies. Activities must maintain cohorts and be done in line with all COVID-Safe settings in schools.
From November 8 the following activities can take place on school grounds in cohorts only:
- Assemblies and presentations – outdoors only
- Excursions – day only, not overnight
- Incursions – activities provided on school site by external providers related to curriculum delivery or student wellbeing
- Dancing
- Music classes, bands, ensembles and lessons – for instruments that can be played with a mask only
- Sport – in-school within cohort and inter-school online outside school hours.
Fully vaccinated volunteers and providers will be allowed on site to support school operations or fulfil specific roles, such as helping with the canteen or uniform shop.
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the changes allowed students more curricular and extra-curricular opportunities while schools maintain COVID-19 safe measures.
“Students have experienced an incredibly disrupted school year; in line with the relaxation of community settings, we are aligning some school activities to provide them with as much normality as possible,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Schools’ stringent safety measures remain in place, including vaccinations of all adults on site, cohorting, cleaning, mask wearing and ensuring appropriate ventilation.
“Importantly all adults on site during school hours, including staff and visitors, must be fully vaccinated and wear masks to be allowed on school site.”
Community use of school facilities can also go ahead from November 8, outside school hours only.

All schools in NSW are operating under level 3 restrictions. We are implementing separate play areas for stages during breaks to reduce mingling and our enhanced cleaning arrangements will remain in place. It is important that we are even more vigilant with our hygiene than ever before. It is imperative that we continue to practice good hygiene habits, continue to be tested if displaying even the mildest symptoms and stay at home until a negative result has been given.

Years 3 to 6 Check-in Assessment
ALL Primary students will be participating in a reading and numeracy Check-in assessment over the next 4 weeks.
Year 6 in Week 5.
The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning following the period of learning from home. The results of this assessment supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy. The data obtained from these assessments will help teachers tailor teaching more specifically to student needs.
Students will need to bring headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer to enable them to hear the audio during the assessment.
