Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week were marked on Monday with the purchase of a new Welcome/ Gawaybanha totem which will be installed near the main entrance of the school. We have also bought a native hibiscus plant which is the National Flower for Sorry Day because of its resilience. We’re looking forward to seeing this area complete and having it as a permanent reminder to reflect upon Australia’s reconciliation journey.
A huge thank you to Miss Dixon and Ms Laurie for organising the District Cross Country last Friday. Despite the dismal weather, we got through the day relatively unscathed, and we have 13 students going on to Western Cross Country which will be held in Orange for the first time ever in a few week’s.
Good luck to Will Swords who is representing our school at the State Basketball Championships in Tamworth this week. Will is playing for Western and having a great time, as well as his mum Mrs Swords.
This Friday, primary students will be participating in our athletics carnival field events at school. This format worked exceptionally well last year, so we will be doing the same this year. Parents are welcome to attend/ help out. It will commence in the morning, going through to lunch. Our whole school assembly will start after lunch.
Next week we have our Year 5 students heading off the Canberra with Miss Dixon and Miss Chadwick. This is always a great excursion with lots of amazing access to Parliament House, The Mint, AIS, Questacon and Australian National War Memorial to name a few. I’m sure everyone will have a great time, just make sure to pack warm clothes!
Our girls’ soccer and touch teams will play their next round of PSSA games next week. We wish them well and thank Miss Dixon and Ms Laurie for coaching and organising the girls and all the parents for their support and providing transport to Orange for the touch game next Wednesday.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Eisteddfod Dance
On Wednesday our two dance groups went to Cowra on a bus to dance for the Cowra Eisteddfod. Once we got there we had to wait about ten minutes while everyone else was performing. The stage three group performed first to the song Trust Fall by Pink. After a few other schools performed then the stage two girls and boys performed to the song What Dreams are Made of by Lizzie McGuire. The stage two girls got highly commended and the stage three girls were one point off second place. We packed up and left to Holman Place School.
We arrived at the school we got changed into our school uniform while the students were horse riding. While we were waiting for the kids we ate our recess and had a play. Once they arrived we showed the school our dances and they loved it. We finished the dances and played in the playground with the other kids.
We all had a very fun time in Cowra and all our practice paid off.

We enjoyed outdoor play during recess and Ms Lay read us The Speedy Sloth. We had a delicious morning tea and special biscuits supplied by the Canowindra Preschool.
We absolutely loved our visit!
Thank you so much to the Canowindra Preschool Kindergarten.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is: 3/4 A
In Mathematics, Year 3/4 A have been learning about modelling objects and nets. We used grid paper to sketch the net of 3D shapes and then folded them to form cubes and rectangular prisms. It was a very tricky task! Outcome- MA2-3DS-01 Makes and sketches models and nets of three-dimensional objects including prisms and pyramids
Attendance - Every Day Matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
