Cowra Out of School Hours Vacation Care
Principal's Message
I’d like to welcome Ms Toovey back from maternity leave. Ms Toovey will “slot” back into the role of AP Curriculum & Instruction and continue on from the great work that Mrs Miller and Mrs Howard have done over the past 6 months.
This week I have started an initiative to reward 100% attendance for each class. For every day that a class has 100% attendance, everyone in the class will get a reward from my “shopping trolley”. Year 5/6B were the first class to get this reward yesterday. As we all know, attendance is the key to learning, positive social skills and wellbeing. COVID has had a huge impact on school attendance and we’re trying to turn that around and get everyone back on track and attending 95% of the time. That is the optimal attendance rate, which is only 1 or 2 days away each term. I’m also aware that there are lots of illnesses around at the moment, but if your child is well, make sure they are at school every day of the week.
Our Year 5s headed off the Canberra this morning bright and early. I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful time and experience all the amazing experiences that Canberra has to offer for their Civics education. A huge thank you to Miss Dixon and Miss Chadwick for taking our students away overnight.
Congratulations to our soccer girls who played their second round PSSA knock out game against Cowra PS. The girls played exceptionally well as a team and as a result came away with a 6 nil win. Everyone is looking forward to the next game against Lithgow, date and destination tbc. Thank you once again to Miss Dixon for coaching and organising the girls.
Good luck to Ms Laurie and our touch football girls who are playing in Orange on Friday. And once again thank you to our wonderful parents who help transport students to these events.
All of our students have been visiting the Age of Fishes Museum as part of their Science unit. They are having a tour of the storage shed which houses over 3000 fish fossils which were dug up from the side of the road in the 80s. They are also meeting the owner of the fish fossil site Dr David McGrath and learning about all everything there is to know about these amazing fossils. Thank you to Mrs Townsend for organising this excursion for the whole school.
Lastly, Miss Lander is taking 6 weeks leave from next week. I’m sure she will have a wonderful trip and we welcome Mrs Pearce back on K/1 for the duration of Miss Lander’s leave.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is:
K/1L have been learning how to measure length. We measured how far we could jump using Miss Lander's boots! We had to make sure that the boots were touching with no gaps or overlaps, and we had to make sure we measured from the starting line all the way to where we landed. MAE-GM-02 MA1-GM-02

Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
