Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Winter has finally arrived, hopefully everyone is keeping warm on this very frosty start to the day!
Our classes that have had a change in teacher over the past few weeks have had a very smooth transition, I’d like to thank all our staff for the preparation leading up to this and the great work that everyone is doing to make it these classes their own and ensuring all the students learning needs are catered for, well done everyone!
School reports will be uploaded next Monday, Week 10. This year they will all be available on the Sentral Parent Portal and through the app. They can be viewed from there or printed off. The K-2 syllabus has also been updated and parents will notice a difference between Infants and Primary reports. All Infants parents will be sent an email to explain the changes before reports are sent out. If you have any questions or queries, please contact the school.
Good luck to Jay Burn who is representing our school at the PSSA Rugby League Carnival in Wagga this week. Jay is playing for Western and is having a great time at the carnival and scoring a few tries.
Today our school hosted Mr John Coutis who spoke to staff and parents at a breakfast this morning, and then spoke to our Primary students in the hall. John has triumphed over adversity and has become a true inspiration to everyone that he speaks to. The students lapped up his engaging presentation and was went away with a positive outlook on life.
This Friday, Bell Shakespeare will be performing at our school. Bell Shakespeare is a well-known theatre company who brings the stories of Shakespeare into our school through first class acting and improvisation. They have been coming to our school for over 15 years and Stage 2 and 3 can’t wait to see their interpretation of Macbeth. Please make sure you have given permission and paid the $8 before Friday.
Our girls’ soccer teams will play their next game in Lithgow on Monday. We wish them well and thank Miss Dixon for coaching and organising the girls and all the parents for their support and providing transport to Lithgow. Good luck girls!
School photos went home yesterday and today, please look out for them in school bags. Our last assembly of the term will be held next Friday 30th June (last day of term).
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is: 4/5
4/5 this term has been focusing on informative texts. In the past few weeks, we have been researching our own agriculture field and creating an informative text through Google Slides or Google Sites. Our creativity has allowed for us to explore different technology skills, as well as learning about the many different fields of agriculture that surround us at Canowindra or beyond.

Year 5 Canberra Excursion
On Wednesday Week 7 all of the year 5’s went on a excursion to Canberra. The year 5’s left at 6:30am and it took 4 hours and 25 minutes to get there. We had recess at the AIS and when we finished our recess we went to the Sportex where we explored different games and activities for 45 minutes. After that our AIS tour guides took us to the stadium where the singers like Lady Gaga and PINK performed. We went to a gymnasium and saw where the gymnasts trained, we went to the volleyball courts and saw where the women and men played volleyball. Next we left the volleyball courts and went to see the gym and there were people there working out. People asked lots of questions about what they were using in the gym and why. Then we left that room and walked to the heated swimming pool to see how people used technology to improve their swimming.
Our next stop was the Electoral Education Center. We got to learn about democracy and what happened back then when people had to vote. After learning about voting, we ate lunch and played in the gardens. We played tips and it was awesome!
When we got to the War Memorial, we went to a room to watch a video about the last post. The video finished and we got to explore the War Memorial and look at the big poppy wall with all of the fallen soldiers. After a while, the Last Post Ceremony was on and we had to sit in our spot beside the water. It was interesting to witness the Last Post Ceremony at the War Memorial.
After a big day we got on the bus and drove to Camp Cottermouth. We saw a few kangaroos and rabbits on the way. Once we got there we sat inside and we had dinner at about 7:30 pm. After we had our dinner, it was time for showers, pajamas, and a movie. We watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and then it was then time for bed.
The next day we woke up and had breakfast and made our lunch. After that we went back to our cabins and packed everything up and got ready to leave. We had to check our rooms to see if we left anything behind. When that was done we got on the bus and drove to the Mint (Coin Factory/Museum) and learnt about the uprising of coins and we saw the factory where the coins were packaged and counted.
Next we went to the New Parliament House and learnt about voting and we got to vote and we saw the green and red rooms. The red room was called the Sentate and the green room was called the House Of Representatives. We had the opportunity to role play the House of Representatives at the Parliament house.
Then we went over to Questacon to go through all the rooms where we saw the Drop. Many people had a go at the drop slide.
After a tiring two days, we hopped on the bus and headed home. We arrived back at Canowindra Public School at 7.30pm on Thursday where our families picked us up.

Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
