Principal's Message
Thank you to everyone for a wonderfully busy and productive term. We have managed to get though relatively unscathed; it has been a relentless term for illness but hopefully everyone is on the mend. As the days get longer and warmer, I’m sure everyone will be back fighting fit next term.
Well done to Miss Dixon, parents and our soccer girls for their long trip to Lithgow on Monday. Although they weren’t successful on the day, they showed a fighting spirit to almost draw after coming back from 2 nil down.
Unfortunately, the Rugby 7s was postponed today due to the rain, I’m sure this will be reconvened next term. Our NAIDOC games planned for today have also been postponed till next term.
Good luck to Noah Grey who will be representing our school at the PSSA State Cross Country Carnival in Sydney early next term. All the best with your training over the holidays!
I’d also like to wish our ever ready and reliable general assistant (GA) Mr Robert Ellis a happy retirement. Rob has been at Canowindra PS for nearly 30 years. He knows every inch of the school inside and out and underground! Not only has Rob maintained our school grounds and buildings, but he has also retrieved many balls off the roofs and cooked many a mean BBQ. Rob will be sorely missed, and we wish him all the best as he embarks on more travel around Australia. However, I’m sure we will see Mr Ellis around school as he still has grandchildren here for the next 6 years. Farewell Mr Ellis, we will miss you! I’d also like to welcome Jade Berkrey, who will be filling in for Mr Ellis for the rest of the year.
Thank you to everyone who has accessed school reports in Sentral. If you haven’t done so, instructions on how to do this are included in the newsletter.
Term 3 will resume on Tuesday 18th July for all students. Staff will be attending a SDD on Monday 17th July.
I am now officially handing over to the very capable Mrs Pengilly for the rest of the year. Have a great holiday with all your family and friends, stay warm!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

PSSA Girls Soccer Rd 4
The girls' soccer team headed to Lithgow on Monday to play their Round 4 match against Lithgow Public School. The weather wasn't on our side, however it was Lithgow after all. The girls faced very strong winds, which made it hard to get the ball to go where they wanted it to. Unfortunately, Lithgow came out victors in the game with a nail-biting finish, 2-1. Well done to Addison on your first goal.Thank you very much to all parents who drove kids to Lithgow and braved the cold weather with us.

Bell Shakespeare Visit
On Friday, the Bell Shakespeare Company visited Canowindra Public School to present their production ‘Just MacBeth!’ to all primary classes. The show was a combination of Shakespeare and Andy Griffiths which included garden gnomes, the play of the 3 witches and a king. Students in the audience were able to interact with the play and the actors also stole Sam Markcrows’ spleen! Primary thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon making potions and visiting medieval Scotland.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is: Year 2
This term Year 2 have been learning about different techniques that authors use to help us understand books on a deeper level. Students have been working in small groups to brainstorm action verbs that can be included in a complex sentence to help to add imagery for the reader.
Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
