Relieving Principal's Message
I would like to start by welcoming all students and families back to Term 3. I hope the students have recharged and are ready for a wonderful term of learning, fun and achievement.
Mrs Hawker has commenced her leave and we wish her well as she enjoys life beyond the school gates. I am looking forward to embracing the role of relieving principal for the next six months.
The calendar is already looking busy as we plan events for Term 3. Some events to look forward to include Open Day in Education Week, excursions, 3 Way Conferences and Book Week parade. I urge you to read the weekly newsletter and respond to Sentral Parent Portal notifications for more information.
We have been successful in our application for Sporting Schools funding and have been fortunate to book a development officer from Waratah Rugby to work with all students in K-6 over a 4 week period. Each class will participate in 4 sessions learning basic skills, developing fitness and enjoying modified rugby union activities. This will commence tomorrow (Thursday 19th July).
During the holidays, building work was completed to create a space for the provision of Out of School Hours care (OoSH). This service is a necessity in Canowindra and we are working with care providers to secure this for the community. More information will be coming soon.
Please spread the word about Kinderbounce to any family you know who has a child who is 5 years old before the end of September. They can book their child’s place by calling the school.
A new feature of the newsletter focuses on our staff. We believe strongly in the significance of developing connections with our wider community and think it is important you get to know us a little better. We hope you enjoy this weekly addition.
Exciting times are ahead! Please remember how important attendance at school is and I would like to thank you for your ongoing support in your child’s education.
Go the Matildas and have a great week!
Kind regards,
Lauren Pengilly

Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
