Relieving Principal's Message
There is quite a bit excitement in the air at Canowindra Public School this week. Congratulations to Miss Chadwick and Harry on their engagement and Mrs Pearce has welcomed a new granddaughter, Maggie. We wish them all much love and happiness.
A special mention this week is of the huge achievement made by Noah Grey who ran at the PSSA State Cross Country Championships last Friday in Eastern Creek. Noah placed 55th in NSW. A wonderful accomplishment, Noah!
Last week we welcomed a new member of staff, Sharon D’Elboux. Sharon joins us in the role of a Student Support Officer (SSO). This position is to provide and run evidence-based programs for students to improve their wellbeing and resilience from the effects of natural disasters and changes happening in their lives. She will also be able to undertake individual and group work based on general wellbeing and support for students.
2023 NAPLAN results for students in Year 3 and Year 5 are being sent home today with the students. These results indicate individual student performance and are shown on a national achievement scale for each assessment. This scale indicates whether the student is meeting expectations in literacy and numeracy. How are these results used?
- Students and parents/carers may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
- Teachers use results to help identify students who need greater challenges or extra support.
- Schools use results to identify strengths and areas of need to improve teaching programs, and to set goals in literacy and numeracy.
- Results are used to review the effectiveness of programs and support offered to schools.
- The community can see information about the performance of schools over time.
Should you wish to discuss your child’s NAPLAN results with their teacher, the 3 Way Conferences in Week 5 are an ideal opportunity to do so. Bookings will be able to be made for these conferences via the parent portal next week.
Next week, we celebrate Education Week. This year’s theme is 175 years of public education in NSW. We invite parents and carers into the classrooms to share in our students’ learning journey and achievements. Bring a picnic and eat lunch with your children. We will also conduct an official opening of the paver path and the new mural on Level 3. Further details can be found in this newsletter.
Outside of School Hours are seeking staff to commence their service in Canowindra. Please see the advertisement in this week’s newsletter and visit Home | OSHC (outsideschoolhourscare.com.au) for further information.
Looking forward to seeing many of you next week at Open Day. Enjoy a great week.
Kind regards, Lauren Pengilly

Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
