Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s hard to believe summer is just around the corner, the warmer weather is yet to eventuate. Let’s hope it warms up for swimming this Friday for Primary sport. Notes went home on Monday and these need to be returned by tomorrow. Please ensure all details have been completed and if students do not have a season ticket, they will need to pay $3.20 upon entry to the pool (this will give students access after school as well). Don’t forget swimmers, rashie, towel and sunscreen.
Intensive swimming starts in Week 9 for all Year 2 students and selected 3-6 students. Notes will be sent home next week, all money needs to be paid directly to the pool each day if you don’t have a season pass. Lessons will be taught by Mrs Matic and Just Keep Swimming instructors.
I’d like to welcome Mrs Jane Mutton to our school. Jane is replacing Mrs Bowden’s position on Wednesday’s while Mrs Bowden takes Year 4/5. I’d also like to welcome Alannah Knight who will be completing her third year prac on Mrs Matic’s class starting next Monday. Alannah will be with us for 3 weeks and I’m sure she will enjoy teaching Year 2 during this time.
Unfortunately, we will be without a crossing supervisor in the afternoon for the duration of this week. Staff and parents are encouraged to remind students of the road safety messages which are:
* Wherever possible, cross the road at a designated pedestrian crossing facility
* Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road
* Take care whenever you cross
* Don’t run across the road
If you have any issues with the crossing please contact: scswestern@transport.nsw.gov.au
Margie Crowther has reported that all trees planted by the Yarning group last term are alive and thriving. We look forward to being part of National Tree Planting Day again next year.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker
Latest COVID-19 Advice
Level 3 Restrictions - Revised
SCHOOL STUDENTS ENJOY MORE FREEDOMS
FROM NOVEMBER 8
More restrictions are easing in NSW public schools, allowing students to enjoy additional activities safely at school in line with current community settings.
Changes to settings includes allowing fully vaccinated extra-curricular providers on school site, as well as some music classes and bands, day excursions and assemblies. Activities must maintain cohorts and be done in line with all COVID-Safe settings in schools.
From November 8 the following activities can take place on school grounds in cohorts only:
- Assemblies and presentations – outdoors only
- Excursions – day only, not overnight
- Incursions – activities provided on school site by external providers related to curriculum delivery or student wellbeing
- Dancing
- Music classes, bands, ensembles and lessons – for instruments that can be played with a mask only
- Sport – in-school within cohort and inter-school online outside school hours.
Fully vaccinated volunteers and providers will be allowed on site to support school operations or fulfil specific roles, such as helping with the canteen or uniform shop.
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the changes allowed students more curricular and extra-curricular opportunities while schools maintain COVID-19 safe measures.
“Students have experienced an incredibly disrupted school year; in line with the relaxation of community settings, we are aligning some school activities to provide them with as much normality as possible,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Schools’ stringent safety measures remain in place, including vaccinations of all adults on site, cohorting, cleaning, mask wearing and ensuring appropriate ventilation.
“Importantly all adults on site during school hours, including staff and visitors, must be fully vaccinated and wear masks to be allowed on school site.”
Community use of school facilities can also go ahead from November 8, outside school hours only.
School Banking Update
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
The last School Banking day will be Wednesday 8th December 2021.
School Banking Co-ordinators will be able to order rewards for your students up to and including Wednesday 17th November 2021. This will allow for delivery and distribution of the rewards to your School Bankers prior to the program ending in December.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be the chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week it is:
Last week KS read a book called Kind. It showed us all the different ways we can be kind to one another. We decided to make a ‘KS Kindness Jar’ and fill it with a pom pom every time we see or hear someone being kind. We already almost have a full jar of kindness! Go KS!
PDe-3 communicates ways to be caring, inclusive and respectful of others
All schools in NSW are operating under level 3 restrictions. We are implementing separate play areas for stages during breaks to reduce mingling and our enhanced cleaning arrangements will remain in place. It is important that we are even more vigilant with our hygiene than ever before. It is imperative that we continue to practice good hygiene habits, continue to be tested if displaying even the mildest symptoms and stay at home until a negative result has been given.
