Relieving Principal's Message
It is hard to believe that this week marks the halfway point of the term. We wish Mrs Howard well as she begins her maternity leave at the end of this week. We thank her for her dedication and hard work. Mrs Matic returns from her maternity leave to replace Mrs Howard on Year 2 and as Relieving Assistant Principal 2 days a week. Mrs Amanda Miller will continue teaching Year 2 and as Assistant Principal 3 days a week for the remainder of the year. These teachers have worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition for their students.
Our 3 Way Conferences commenced yesterday. These meetings are a great opportunity to strengthen the home-school partnership and allows children to see their family and teacher working together with them. We thank all the parents for attending these meetings.
I am excited to announce the re-establishment of the CPS choir. The choir meets weekly under the guidance of Dr Bullock and Miss Toovey, with over 20 children enjoying singing together.
Congratulations to the 42 athletes who competed at the District Athletics Carnival in Cowra last Friday. Canowindra Public School students represented with pride, skill and determination. Records were broken and many students have earned a place at the Western Carnival. Please keep an eye out for next week's newsletter for the official results.
We are very much looking forward to our Book Week Parade. This event only happens every 2 years and is always a lot of fun. All students are invited to come dressed as book character. Parents and carers are invited to watch the parade.
The excitement is building for tonight’s Women’s World Cup Soccer match. It was great to see so many students and staff getting into the spirit of the event today. GO MATILDAS!!!
Have a great week. Lauren Pengilly

District Athletics Carnival
Last Friday, 42 students headed to Cowra for our annual District Athletics Carnival. The weather was on our side this year and it was an amazing day. Congratulations to all children who attended and ran, jumped and threw their best.
Congratulations to Noah Grey who was the Junior Boy Champion & to Jay Burn who was the Senior Boy Champion, what a fantastic achievement.
We had 2 record breakers on the day, Noah Grey broke the Junior Boys 1500m record and Finn Grey broke the 11 Years Boys 1500m record. Congratulations boys, amazing!
Students advancing to Western need to have placed:
1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the 100m, 200m, Long Jump, High Jump, Discus and Shot Put.
Only 1st place will go through for the 1500m, and 1st and 2nd place will go through for the 800m.
Western Trials will take place in Dubbo on Friday 15th September. Unfortunately, no results have been forwarded to us from the District convener, therefore all results will be in next week’s newsletter. Children should have already received their certificates and information about Western last Friday. If they haven’t received their information yet, can they please come and see Miss Dixon.
Parents are required to transport their child/ren to Dubbo for the Western Trials.

Yarning Group
Our school's Yarning Group will be starting in Week 6. Yarning Group will run on Friday afternoons from 1:50-3:00 pm, alternating with our whole school assembly. Yarning Group is a wonderful opportunity for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to connect with and learn about culture.
Science Week at Canowindra Preschool
Yesterday Mrs Townsend and our Year 5 scientists shared their love of science with students at the Canowindra Preschool for Science Week. They did Pendulum Painting and Vortex Bottles showing force and gravity. They created Fizzing Colour Plates and Soda Boats, both using bicarb soda and vinegar reactions. Thank you to Canowindra Preschool for inviting us to share our experiments with you.

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week we have two classes : 5/6 & 2
Year 5/6 are learning more about Persuasive texts this term. We have been looking at improving adverts by using more sophisticated and persuasive language.
EN3-CWT-01
plans, creates and revises written texts for multiple purposes and audiences through selection of text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language
Year 2 have been working really hard to meet their learning goals in reading, writing and mathematics. During lessons, students remove their goal card from the wall and have it in front them. If they are able to demonstrate that they are meeting their goal, their teacher will sign the post it. When a goal has been demonstrated three times, this goal is considered achieved and a new goal is discussed.
Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
