Relieving Principal's Message

We hope you and your children enjoyed our Book Week parade this year! It was great to see how our love of books has united our CPS community, even one of our favourite bus drivers dressed up for Book Week! Thank you to all of the parents, carers, staff and students for their creativity, clever costume designs and participation. Credit also goes to Miss Lynch for her organisation of Book Week activities for all students in Kinder to Year 6.
We welcome back Mrs Kristen Matic tomorrow as she returns from maternity leave. Mrs Matic will be at school on Thurdays and Fridays and will be job sharing with Mrs Miller in the role of relieving K-2 assistant principal and teaching Year 2.
This week also sees our Year 6 students travel to Berry Sport and Recreation Centre. The children will return Friday afternoon and will have many new experiences and stories to share. Our gratitude goes to Miss Dixon and Miss Pritchard who have accompanied the group and have left behind their own lives for a week to allow the students to make special memories.
Regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. Parents or carers are legally responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school and parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school. If you receive a text message from the school, please respond in detail outlining the reason your child is absent. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children. Please be advised that lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must also be explained by parents. Arriving at school on time is important as it:
- Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
- Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
- Gives students time to greet their friends before class
- Reduces classroom disruption
As you know, at CPS we have had an absolute focus on attendance at school every day. Attendance is closely monitored and we appreciate the support of parents and carers in this matter.
Have a great week. Lauren Pengilly

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is : 4/5
4/5 have been working extremely hard towards their understanding of sentence structure. As we have learned about different sentences, we have also played games like "roll and write" where we roll a die and write different types of sentences which must include specific words.

Attendance - Every day matters

We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.

While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
