Relieving Principal's Message
Last weekend we celebrated Father’s Day. We hope all our CPS dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles and father figures enjoyed a special day. Thank you to our P&C who organised a wonderful Father’s Day stall for our students to purchase gifts.
SASS Recognition Week This week I would like to give a massive shout out to our School Administrative and Support Staff as we celebrate SASS Recognition Week and the vital role that non-teaching staff play in schools. Thank you to our office staff, teachers' aides (SLSOs), our general assistant and student support officer for the work they do in our school community.
Safety Concern In the afternoon the Belmore St gate can be a hectic and potentially unsafe place for our students. To encourage a safer use of the pick up zone, the bottom gate on Level 3 will be the exit point for students in the afternoon. The gate near the church yard will no longer be opened of an afternoon. This will commence tomorrow, Thursday 7/8/23. Please drive to the end of the pick up zone and remember the church is not to be used as a parking or pick up area. More parking is available in Charlotte St. Your understanding of this change will be greatly appreciated, and I am sure everyone will support a change that promotes the safety of our school community.
Check-in Assessment This week Year 6 will complete the Check-in assessment in the areas of reading, numeracy and writing. Thank you to Miss Toovey for facilitating these assessments. Catchup sessions for students who have been absent will be available over the next few days.
Year 4 Blue Mountains Excursion This term has seen many of our students attend excursions, having new experiences and learning beyond the school gate. Students in Year 4 get their turn next week with an overnight stay in the Blue Mountains. Please refer to the packing list sent home previously in order to prepare your child for this trip.
Have a great week. Lauren Pengilly

K-2 Dubbo Zoo Excursion
On Friday 1st September K-2 students enjoyed a trip to the zoo. When we arrived at the zoo we sat down and ate our recess. We then got back on the bus and started our journey around the zoo. We stopped off to see many animals and walked around the enclosures.
Students were split into two groups and visited the Education Centre for a 'Backyard Buddies' presentation. They observed different types of insects, lizards and snakes, building a warm environment for the lizard to move around. One of the groups went on a bug catch outside.
At the end of the presentation, it was time to get back on the bus and make our way back to school.
Taliesin’s favourite part was the koala lookout. Sam loved the hippos. Georgie enjoyed looking at the cheetahs and the meerkats. Will’s favourite part was observing the safari animals. Pia loved seeing the monkeys. Macie’s favourite thing at the zoo was seeing the lions and cheetahs. Emily enjoyed looking at the koalas, cheetahs, hippos, elephants and rhinos. River loved visiting the cheetahs and the kangaroo walk through and patting the snake. Isla’s favourite part of the excursion was looking at the koalas and giraffes.

KINDER ORIENTATION
Our next transition program for all students starting Kindergarten in 2024 at Canowindra Public School commences in Term 4. We are so very excited to welcome these students and their families to our school. Enrolments can be made at https://ehub.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/schoolenrolment/?schoolCode=7301
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week's class is : 5/6 Blue
5/6 Blue have been focusing on persuasive texts this term. We have been analysing marketing and advertisement campaigns and how they persaude others to purchase their products. We are now creating our own shoe design and advertisement based around persuasive concepts and language.
EN3-CWT-01 - plans, creates and revises different texts for multiple purposes and audiences through selection of text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language.
Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
