Relieving Principal's Message
Thank you for such a positive start to Term 4! It was great to see the students actively engaged, enjoying all the things school has to offer. Keep in mind the Department of Education has processes in place to ensure all children attend school every day as well as arrive and leave school on time. Every fortnight, I meet with the Home School Liaison Officer, who monitors class rolls and follows up on children whose records show an unusual number of absences, patterns of repeated partial absences and/or unexplained absences. Our target is to have our attendance rate above 95% every week. Our attendance figures for the first week of Term 4 are listed below:
Year Level | Weekly attendance rate |
Kindergarten | 85.6% |
Year 1 | 94.7% |
Year 2 | 99.6% |
Year 3 | 96.2% |
Year 4 | 95.0% |
Year 5 | 92.8% |
Year 6 | 94.3% |
ART SHOW!!!
Students are excited to know their own artwork is being displayed for sale in the basement of Perennialle Plants this weekend. Don’t miss this opportunity to support our school and make your child feel very special. Opening night is Friday 20th October with doors open from 4pm and the official opening at 6:30pm. The art show is open to the public all weekend. There are no holds on the works of art, so first in best dressed! Tickets for opening night can be purchased at 123tix.com.au. Thank you to our P&C for coordinating and hosting this event. Additional information is available in the newsletter.
MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones are banned during school hours for primary students. If a student must have their phones due to school travel/contact with home – students MUST leave their phones at the office, where they’ll be kept securely for the day. There is NO option for students to leave their phones unattended in their school bags at any time during the school day. Please remind your child about this policy. Cellular watches need to be set to ‘school/classroom mode’ to disable calls and messaging. Thank you for your support in this matter.
CHECK-IN ASSESSMENT
Students in Years 3, 4 and 5 will participate in the Check-in Assessment over the next two weeks. The Check-in Assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to access and monitor student learning. The Check-in Assessments can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in Literacy and Numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Thank you to Miss Toovey for coordinating these assessments.
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY
Please take the time to complete the parent survey. The survey provides us valuable information regarding your perspectives on your child’s school experience and will be used to make practical improvements to our school. The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete, and your answers are anonymous. Click the following link to begin the survey http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/can
Have a great week and see you at the Art Show!!
Lauren Pengilly
Last Friday we welcomed representatives from Central Tablelands Water to school to talk to the students about how we receive our town water including the process and infrastructure involved. Not only did students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for this precious resource, but they also received a water bottle each. The students' enthusiasm and inquisitive minds shone as they posed insightful questions. A big thank you to Central Tablelands Water!

Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is: K/1
K/1 have been learning how to write a persuasive text. We read the book "If I Had a Dinosaur" and wrote about why a dinosaur would be the best pet. We came up with some wonderful reasons why we would want a dinosaur. One of the most popular reasons was that we could ride the dinosaur to school! We then painted a picture of our dream pet dinosaur to hang up in the classroom with our fantastic writing.
ENE-CWT-01 and EN1-CWT-01: create texts that give an opinion.

Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
