Week 7 Term 4 Newsletter 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wild weekend of weather! As a result, we’ve had several families and teachers cut off from the world. I appreciate everyone’s efforts to get to school this week whether it be traveling 2 hours to get to school each day or travelling to school via boats or tractors. I hope all our families along the Belubula and Lachlan Rivers aren’t too impacted and come out unscathed at the other end.
We wrapped up another successful Kinder Orientation last Thursday, thanks to Mrs Pengilly, Miss Rinaldo and Mrs Matic. We are looking forward to the next cohort of children starting their education at Canowindra Public School next year.
Last week I sent home a survey to all families. This survey can be completed online on any platform. I would really appreciate as many surveys as possible being completed. It is important to our school and to me that our community has a voice. I can assure you that the information gathered will be used to increase the bond and communication between home and school. This information will also inform our planning for next year. I have included the web address below. Students in Years 4 to 6 at our school are also taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a unique username and password.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to the school by Friday 19th November.
Level 3 restrictions look set to stay for the rest of the year. At this stage we are planning our annual presentation day on Tuesday 14th December over two time slots. Infants from 9.30am and Primary from 11.30am. The ceremony will be at school with invited parents/ carers of award recipients being able to attend if fully vaccinated. All Year 6 parents are invited to attend, if they are vaccinated. Visitors will be required to QR code or sign in upon entry into school grounds on Level 3.
We are also able to welcome back parent helpers for reading support in classrooms. Once again parents must be vaccinated and unfortunately under school age children cannot accompany adults.
Our P&C Colour Fun Run will be held on Friday 10th December. Unfortunately, parents cannot be part of this fabulous day, however, staff will be distributing the colour and will organise the day on behalf of the P&C. There will be lots of photos on Facebook and in the newsletter. Support for the day has been amazing and we have raised $6000 in total for the P&C. All students will be able to participate in this amazing day of fun. Year 6 is organising the obstacle course on the day and we’re looking forward to seeing what obstacles they come up with.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Sharon Hawker

Level 3 Restrictions
Assemblies and presentations
Assemblies and presentations will be allowed outdoors on site. Cohorts should be separated with physical distancing in place where practicable.
Care must be taken to avoid mixing and mingling of cohorts when entering and exiting the assembly or presentation.
Fully vaccinated visitors (including parents and carers) are only allowed to attend if completing a specific role (such as presenting) and at the invitation of the school. All visitors must check in using the school check-in and show proof of vaccination.
Visitors and volunteers on site
Fully vaccinated visitors – such as volunteers, allied health partners and other external providers, and non-school-based Department of Education staff – are allowed on site to support curriculum delivery, wellbeing programs and school operations that maintain student cohorts. These include programs such as reading support, canteens, uniform shops and gardening.
School Banking Update
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
The last School Banking day will be Wednesday 8th December 2021.
School Banking Co-ordinators will be able to order rewards for your students up to and including Wednesday 17th November 2021. This will allow for delivery and distribution of the rewards to your School Bankers prior to the program ending in December.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be the chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week it is:
In Art, Year 3/4 have been learning how to draw portraits using charcoal. They learnt how to make their portrait look balanced by drawing lines on their paper and how to blend the charcoal to create shadow. They all did an amazing job and have started to paint their portraits using water colour paint. Great job 3/4!

All schools in NSW are operating under level 3 restrictions. We are implementing separate play areas for stages during breaks to reduce mingling and our enhanced cleaning arrangements will remain in place. It is important that we are even more vigilant with our hygiene than ever before. It is imperative that we continue to practice good hygiene habits, continue to be tested if displaying even the mildest symptoms and stay at home until a negative result has been given.
