Relieving Principal's Message
Here we are, already in the middle of the term! We have had a couple of busy weeks. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive and engaging with such positivity in our school events.
Remembrance Day
On Saturday morning, the community are invited to attend the town Remembrance Day Service at Memorial Park at 10:30am. Our school leaders will represent our school during the wreath laying. This is always a special event as we take the time to pay respect and pause to remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans and those currently serving in our armed forces.
Hampers
The Canowindra Connections Centre are generously donating 5 food hampers to families at CPS. This is such a lovely gesture and will be welcomed by many. To make it fair, each family will enter a draw to win a hamper. If you are one of the lucky recipients, we will contact you directly when the hampers arrive.
School Swimming
Canowindra Pool opens for the season this weekend. We are very fortunate to be able to offer swimming school for Year 2 students and other selected primary students. Swim School commences Monday 20th November. Students will swim everyday for 2 weeks and the program will be conducted by qualified swimming instructors. Please support your child to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn to swim at a very cheap rate. Please complete all relevant permission via the Sentral parent portal and ensure pool entry is paid.
Swimming for primary sport starts Friday 17th November. All primary students are expected to attend and must be prepared to swim every Friday for the rest of the year. Please find more information in this newsletter. Students will be placed in ability groups and will develop skill, confidence and fitness. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to become safe, competent swimmers which is so important!
Attendance in Week 4 Term 4. Amazing attendance and engagement from our students last week! Thank you to our families for supporting their children and ensuring school attendance is a priority.

Musica Viva Performance K to 2
On Thursday 2nd November K-2 students walked to the Canowindra Services Club to watch the very talented Rhythm Works duo from Musica Viva. Students listened to different pieces of music which were created from a range of instruments from African djembes, marimbas, electronic loop machines, Boomwhackers, and wearable instruments made out of PVC pipe. Students joined in making music using body percussion with the duo.
Community Engagement Day
Last Thursday Year 5 and 6 were invited by Boys to the Bush to attend a community engagement day in Forbes. Students enthusiastically participated in cultural and sporting activities, with the most popular activity being dancing to music played by a DJ. The underlying message of the day was about community, engagement and respect with a focus on the positive impact we can have on a daily basis. Memories were made and fun times were had by all. A big thank you to Boys to the Bush for hosting and including us in such a great day.
We look forward to another group of students attending a weekly Boys to the Bush program commencing next week. This is a wonderful chance for our students to experience educational opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom setting, helping to maintain engagement and positive interactions. We feel very fortunate to be able to work with Boys to the Bush to offer these porgrams.
Swimming for Sport - Yrs 3 to 6
Swimming for Sport commences next Friday 17th November 2023 and runs each Friday till the end of term.
There are two groups, Group 1 consists of Year 3 and Year 4 students - 10am till 11am, Group 2 consists of Year 5 and Year 6 students - 12pm till 1pm.
Students will walk to and from the pool each Friday, students should bring a swimming costume, a towel, a rash shirt or T-shirt, school hat and warm clothing (on cool days). These need to be brought to school every Friday. Phone calls to parents will not be made requesting forgotten items. The cost of pool entry is $3.20 and this MUST be paid to the class teacher each Friday (unless a season pass is held).
School Fete
Last Friday we held our annual fete. This event has been enjoyed by generations year after year and once again, this year was a highlight of our school calendar. Students, families and members of the community happily engaged in various activities. Students and teachers manned a variety of stalls, our P&C organised the Age of Fishes, NRL, cricket, PCYC laser tag, and emergency services to entertain us. A BIG thank you to all who contributed to and supported our fete.
Monster Marathon
On Friday 27th October, 5/6 Blue and 5/6 participated in our annual Year 6 fundraiser, The Monster Marathon. This event consists of a track that goes 1km around our school where you can walk, jog or run. A tally is kept for each lap completed by our students. We began our monster marathon at 9am and finished at 2.50pm with breaks for recess and lunch. Our Year 6 students have been fundraising around our town and with families to go towards the Year 6 gift to the school.
On average, Year 5 and 6 ran 22km each and a total of 1103km, which is equivalent to Forster and back to Canowindra!
We had a fabulous day running, jogging and walking to get our steps up and fundraise for our school.
You can still support our fundraiser by donating or sponsoring a Year 6 student before the closing date this Friday (10.11.23).
Written by Year 6.

Staff Profile
Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
