Relieving Principal's Message
This week sees the last week of the school year for students and it is a time to reflect on all of the achievements across the school for 2023. The whole school community has worked together to create a successful year. Big and small events have filled our weeks and another year has flown by. Thank you to every individual who has supported the school including our staff, students, our parents/carers and community. Working as a team allows us all to reap the benefits. We appreciate that you work with us as a team to help educate your children and give them the best school experience we can. For those of you whom have their youngest child moving to Year7 - a special thank you for all you have done to support our school over the years.
It was such a joy to see the hall overflowing yesterday with students, parents and special guests for our Annual Presentation Day celebrations. As we celebrated the award recipients, I looked at those students who applauded their peers and smiled at their friends’ moment on stage. We have so many wonderful students it is always hard for teachers to single out only a few. Every child should feel very proud of their accomplishments, the growth they have made, the skills they've obtained, the challenges they've overcome and the dedication they've shown. Congratulations to each and every student! A big thank you to Mrs Smith for all of her organisation that goes into this event.
We look forward to Mrs Hawker returning as Principal next year. Unfortunately, we must bid farewell to Miss Charlotte Groves and we wish her well as she takes up a teaching position in Boorowa. It is also hoped we see Miss Lynch and Miss Chadwick as casual staff throughout the new year. We thank these teachers for their dedication to their students.
During the festive season and over the January school holidays, enjoy your time with loved ones, travel safely and I look forward to seeing you in 2024.
Kind regards,
Lauren Pengilly

Student Reports
Students will receive their Semester 2 reports tomorrow via the Sentral Parent Portal (due to a system error within Sentral). Great care is taken to ensure that parents and carers have a clear understanding of students’ achievements and where to next with their learning goals. Every child has worked hard and everyone’s report will reflect their individual differences. School report achievement descriptors will include a range from outstanding, high, sound, basic and limited. Students who are awarded a sound achievement are on-track and working at age-appropriate outcomes.
Outstanding = an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content beyond stage/grade expectations that can readily be applied to new situations. Opportunities for extension are made available.
High = a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content, above stage/ age expectations that can be applied in most situations.
Sound = a sound knowledge and understanding of content and has achieved stage/age expectations in the processes and skills.
Basic = a basic knowledge and understanding of the content below stage/age expectations and adjustments are made to the learning program.
Limited = an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content well below stage/age expectations and has addional learning plans in place.
Year 6 Burrendong Excursion
Year 6 students had a great time at Burrendong last week. They spent 3 days enjoying an array of activites with their friends including grass skiing, kayaking, raft building, pedal cars, archery, swimming, slip and slide, games and more! Despite the heat every child was thoroughly engaged and enjoyed themselves, bonding with their friends before going onto high school. What a great way to end an era! Once again, thank you to Miss Dixon and Miss Pritchard for spending three days away looking after the students.
School Leadership Team
Congratulations to our leadership team for 2024 who were inducted yesterday. School Captains are Sophie Balken and Finn Grey Vice Captains are Emily Bullock and Hunter Pearce Prefects are Eloise Duguid, Bronte Lawrence, Jaxton Nicka and Joey Greenhill
Our 2023 leadership team have served our school well in their roles. A huge thank you to Lucy Neville, Will Swords, Claire Pengilly, Tom Henry, Georgia Parker, Ryley Green, Pippa Hatton and Spencer Markcrow.
Chess Tournament
Over the last few weeks, many keen CPS chess players have been competing in a knock-out chess tournament. In the Kindergarten to Year 2 final Kyah Smith and Taliesin Bullock held each other to a draw to become co-champions. Jiro Flores won the Year 3 to Year 5 division and Tom Henry took the Year 6 honours. In a tense final showdown Jiro and Tom played for the title of ultimate CPS champion. After an intense 30-minute game... stalemate! The draw was a good reflection of both player's skill and focus and was a fitting end to a great year of chess.
Well done to all!
Belmore Street Gate
Help to keep our kids safe by parking along the school side of the street in Belmore and Charlotte Street. The footpath allows the children to walk safely to your car or you can walk to the gate and meet them. Let's avoid crossing the road and double parking where possible.
Library Books
As we approach the end of the year, it is now time to return all library books. Please send all library books to school before the end of the week.
Class in Focus
Each week one of our classes will be chosen to showcase the great learning that is happening in our school. This week our class is: 5/6
Science Investigations of Bouyancy Vs Gravity. Making Foil Tinnys and testing who's could hold the most marbles. Sophie Balken was the winner, holding 95 marbles!!!
Attendance - Every day matters
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
While COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses are around especially during the winter months, schools will continue to use COVID-smart measures to minimise the risk of transmission.
If your child is unwell they will need to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptomsExternal link and only return to school when symptom free.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
